Historia
Gaius Petrius Ruso is a divorced and down-on-his-luck army doctor who has made the rash decision to seek his fortune in an inclement outpost of the Roman Empire, namely Britannia. After a 36-hour shift at the army hospital, he succumbs to a moment of weakness and rescues an injured slave girl, Tilla, from the hands of her abusive owner. And before he knows it, Ruso is caught in the middle of an investigation into the deaths of prostitutes working out of the local bar.

You can't make a bad story sound good.
Revisado: 07-03-19
A badly written story, splashed with some Latin words to give it a thin varnish it as an ancient setting, that even Simon Vance couldn't save.

Don't miss this one if you like David Silva.
Revisado: 08-17-18
The story is, as usual in David Silva's novels, entertaining (never a dull moment), well told and frightfully plausible.
George Vidal's performance is a bit under par, not quite clear even when slowing the speed to 95%, which I strongly recommend.

Historia
From his years serving in British Intelligence during the Cold War, to a career as a writer that took him from war-torn Cambodia to Beirut on the cusp of the 1982 Israeli invasion to Russia before and after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, le Carré has always written from the heart of modern times. In this, his first memoir, le Carré is as funny as he is incisive, reading into the events he witnesses the same moral ambiguity with which he imbues his novels.

A privilege and a delight to listen to!
Revisado: 03-31-17
If you like Le Carrés's books as much as I do (I've read them all), this one is an absolute must. Mr. Cornwell's rendering of his experiences is not only an extraordanary piece of introspection, but a rendering of profound thought, in a superb performance which nobody could possibly match, not even Alec Guiness. After this I will re-read his books with a different perspective. I thank him for this masterpiece.

Historia
Charlie Howard - struggling crime-writer by day, talented thief by night - has gone straight. But holing himself up in a crumbling palazzo in Venice to concentrate on his next novel hasn't got rid of the itch in his fingers. And to make matters worse, a striking Italian beauty has just broken into his apartment and made off with his most prized possession, leaving a puzzling calling card in its place. It looks as though kicking the habit of a lifetime will be much more of a challenge than Charlie thought.

Fairly good story with a mediocre performance
Revisado: 12-31-15
The story has a good start and middle part, but it looses credibility towards the end. The performance is mediocre, with a few voices sounding similar to one-another. Also, it seems Mr. Gigante failed to consult for the correct pronunciation of words in Russian and Hebrew, which can be found in Wikipedia, like dacha and chupa.

Historia
In this deeply revealing and engaging autobiography, Herb Silverman tells his iconoclastic life story. He takes the listener from his childhood as an Orthodox Jew in Philadelphia, where he stopped fasting on Yom Kippur to test God's existence, to his adult life in the heart of the Bible Belt, where he became a legendary figure within America's secular activist community and remains one of its most beloved leaders. Never one to shy from controversy, Silverman relates many of his high-profile battles with the Religious Right.

Boring, boring, boring!
Revisado: 12-14-15
I had big expectations for this book, with Richard Dawkins writing and reading the forword.
The book, which Herb Silverman claims his step-daughter couldn't stop laughing about, is probably one of the most boring books ever to have been published. I admit it does have a few pearls of atheistic wisdom, thank you Mr Silverman, but other than that most of the time its contents is as lacking in significance or wit as you can ask for. To make matters worse, Mr. Silverman cannot even correctly read his own autobiography. I am still at odds which is worse: his pronunciation or his intonation, but both are well under par.

A good story but a bit too gory.
Revisado: 10-31-14
Unlike previos novels by Chris Ewan, Safe House is far from funny, even though it does have its lighter moments. A few scenes are quite brutal and, for my taste, way too explicit.
Simon Vance is, as usual, excellent.
So, back to The Good Thief's books....

Historia
In this adventure from the pen of Sweden's master of crime and mystery, a disillusioned Inspector Kurt Wallander is thrown back into the fray when he becomes both hunter and hunted. Crestfallen, dejected, and spiraling into an alcohol-fuelled depression after killing a man in the line of duty, Inspector Wallander has made up his mind to quit the police force for good. When an old acquaintance, a solicitor, seeks Wallander's help and later turns up dead, Wallander realizes that he was wrong not to listen.

Disappointingly boring and badly performed.
Revisado: 10-31-14
A disappintment. Unlike other of Mankell's novels, the story is boring, with frequent repetitions of Inspector Vollander's ruminations and misgivings. On top of that the performance is really bad: the volume of the performer varies from normal to barely audible, which makes it difficult to follow.

Shortlisted for the CrimeFest Last Laugh Award for best humorous crime novel. Charlie Howard doesn’t just write books about a career thief, he also happens to be one. In Amsterdam working on his latest book, Charlie is approached by a mysterious American who asks him to steal two apparently worthless monkey figurines from two separate addresses on the same night. At first he says no.

Witty, well written, excellent performance
Revisado: 04-17-14
This was a surprise. A light detective novel, written from the other side of the fence: the thieve's side. The plot initially seems simple, but slowly gets complicated enough to make it a good novel and witty enough to keep you smiling. The circular self-reference of the writer-thief turned detective is great. The performance is very good and makes the whole book shine. I will be looking for more of Chris Ewan's and Simon Vance's books.
