This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book might be more enjoyed by 14 year girls with dark imaginations.
Would you ever listen to anything by B. A. Paris again?
Probably not. The writing and dialogue were good. The plot was ridiculous, predictable and stupid.

Historia
Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 09-25-15
I probably shouldn't even review this since I'm typically not a fantasy genre aficionado. I received this book free as part of the ford audiobook club. I liked lord of the rings, Harry Potter series. Some zombie/vampire books. But to get my attention they have to be smartly written. Keep you thinking. This book seemed like there were no rules. Like the author just wrote and made stuff up as she went. Introducing random rules (like magic has to be verbal) and then breaking those rules in the next chapter with a "hey here's a new rule". It seemed just sort of silly. Maybe I'm just looking at it too literally.
The performance was just fine with the exception of his strange need to rasp out the magical incantations in the same weird voice for every character. It grated on my nerves.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

4.5 stars
Revisado: 07-09-15
I'm stingy with my 5 star ratings -- I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 a year. But this one was so close. Very much enjoyed it. Liked the plot and the premise. I don't read a ton of zombie or post apocalyptic books but I did like world war Z. This one was totally different. More intellectual. Made me think in different ways. Some gross parts but not too many. Loved it!

I was so excited to listen to a new Jussi book. I downloaded it and started listening right away. It's exactly the same book as "The Marco Effect". So if you read department Q books as soon as they come out, you've likely already read this book

Historia
In the late nineteenth century, people were obsessed by one of the last unmapped areas of the globe: The North Pole. No one knew what existed beyond the fortress of ice rimming the northern oceans. On July 8, 1879, the USS Jeannette set sail from San Francisco to cheering crowds in the grip of "Arctic Fever." The ship sailed into uncharted seas, but soon was trapped in pack ice. Two years into the harrowing voyage, the hull was breached. Amid the rush of water and the shrieks of breaking wooden boards, the crew abandoned the ship.

Interesting but didn't keep my attention
Revisado: 05-20-15
I found the whole topic of the polar sea to be fascinating. It's started slow and got better. But even though it was well written and thoroughly researched, my interested waned. I struggled to finish it. I do suspect that is partly because I knew the fate of the expedition going in. If I had not, I probably would have been more eager to get to the end.
Hats off to people who can endure such hardship and danger for the sake of science.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

Listening was fun after reading 30 yrs ago
Revisado: 04-26-15
Great narration. Also fun because I remembered literally nothing about the book from my original read.
Loved the historical aspect of early Hong Kong. A bit too much complicated scheming but that was easy to overlook.
Highly recommend.
