Surreal Experience

I was a Holy Cross student the first few years the school was open back when Father Gregory was our music instructor as well as the Headmaster and Father Damien was our religion teacher. It was surreal to hear Father Gregory's voice again after all these years. When everyone says that he is the biggest person in the room it is completely true, as a child you just kept looking up and up. While Father Gregory was an intimidating figure, he was also my first vocal coach and his lessons have stayed with me until this day. Father Damian was not someone I was all that fond of. I remember him actually acknowledging at one point that he did not like children so I was determined to not like him back. It was interesting to hear how removed they became as they were so hands-on in those early years. I cannot overstate the value of the education I received at Holy Cross and I'm sorry to learn about its tragic end. I was peripherally aware that the murder had led to the school shutting down but had no idea how much more was going on. Thank you for sharing this as I was very interested in hearing what had happened to these two icons from my childhood.

All Great but Especially The Egg

Listened while on a road trip. The narration was great, only one did we figure out the ending before the twist. Would be worth the purchase if only because of The Egg and the hour long conversation it inspired.

Literal Laugh Out Loud

It's a farce. If you go in expecting something plausible and serious then prepare to be disappointed. This book was fun and had an outrageously improbable plot which you can't help but be sucked into, The characters are endearing in all of their absurdity and eccentricities. Pay attention because it is fast-paced.

VERY EDUCATIONAL FOR BOND FANS

I purchased this title for a family road trip in the hopes we could all listen to the same thing. My husband is a huge Bond fan but had only read a couple of the books many years ago. My sixteen year old and I are huge David Tennant fans from Doctor Who and Good Omens. (He's also incredible in the play of Much Ado About Nothing with Catherine Tate.) The sixteen year old drifted off into listening to her headphones while (supposedly) doing her homework but my husband and I were riveted. The book explains a lot of why Bond is a "love 'em and leave 'em" type of guy. It greatly surpasses the movie (as books tend to) and we hung on every word. David Tennant never fails to entertain and it made the hours in the car fly by.

Excellent Performance

Excellent story with believable flawed characters. I purchased because I had heard of it and am a fan of Colin Firth (after this I think he could plausibly read the phone book and still sound fantastic). I confess it wasn't exactly what I was expecting but I still hung on until the end.

Excellent short story for listening in the car with my seven year old. She was enchanted by the characters and wanted me to turn it on every day as soon as we got in the car.

MY SEVEN YEAR OLD LOVED IT!!!

From the creative characters to the music to the story line, she loved this original. As a parent I didn't mind listening EVERY time we got into the car. My daughter is usually eager to move on to the next story once she finishes one, this is the first time she immediately asked to hear it again.

NOT THE NETFLIX SERIES

If you've come to this book because you enjoyed the Netflix Series then be prepared for a different experience. I watched the series and could understand how some people could almost romanticize Joe; not so in the book. They are both great taken on their own; however the characters in the book are a lot more flawed. There is no abused neighbor kid that somehow redeems Joe and makes him more likable. His obsession with Beck is significantly more creepy and his crazy is much more leveled up. Still a good read/listen,
