Historia
For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Excellent Stories, Okay narration
Revisado: 10-29-24
Of course HP Lovecrafts stories stand on their own regarding quality: some are excellent, others not as much. The narrators laboured hard to make this collection an enjoyable listen. And they largely succeeded. This collection is by no means ALL of HPL's fiction writings. And the last item in this recording is erroneously titled. However, it is enjoyable. (No spoilers here😉)
Ah, the plight of the beleaguered narrator! What polysyllabic eruditions must he employ in HP Lovecrafts cyclopean and cosmically horrific portrayals of the grotesque!
I am a fan of the HPLHS and enjoy their Dark Adventure Radio Theatre.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Story Great, Narrator Great, Music....Yikes
Revisado: 08-25-23
Of course King's story is excellent....good characters, good plot,.etc. Eli Wallach does a great job narrating, but sadly the intrusive, screeching music that makes the listener miss parts of the narrative made this listen an overall 3-star review. If it werent for the music, this would be a 5-star listen. I tried to listen, but the music was so irritating that I had to return the book unfinished. I plan to get the Kindle version instead.

I liked this production, obviously.
But I give a One star to Audible trying to force people to write an essay on how much and why they liked the book when the reader has already indicated this in the star rating.

Historia
Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to "rescuing" a family from a nonexistent gunman.

King Kind of Stumbled On This One
Revisado: 04-22-23
I am a big fan of Stephen King's writing. He's a master novelist and he narrated this audible version excellently. However, "Desperation" fell short of his usual high standards.
While the setting of a resident evil was excellent, and the characters' heroism, including their increasing conversion to the Christian religion was well done, King's additional preachiness on TOP of the character development was superfluous to the story. It detracted from an otherwise excellent story.
That said, I would still recommend people to read it or listen to it.

Excellent series of stories
Revisado: 03-07-23
Stephen King yet again delivers. And Mr Miller's narration is excellent. However, it would have been helpful in the written chapters shown to the listener on his Audible device to have the novellas named. The chapters are only numbered regardless of any change in the actual change of novella. There is no division delineating the name of the novellas as they are changed. This is not helpful to the listener.
That said, the stories are well worth your credit🖖

Good plot and character development. The only difficulty was the flashbacks I had from all the dated computer lingo and elderly forensics😉 Aside from that, the story and narrator were excellent. It was an enjoyable read/listen.

Overall, An Engaging Story, But....
Revisado: 02-22-23
1). Note to Author: Do your research. Witches are not the same as Satanists and vice versa. Neither the Church of Satan nor most Wiccans are into sacrifices or malevolent magic. If Ms. Barton had actually visited with Wiccans and also Church of Satan members, surely she would have written a better description of what they respectively believe and practise. Now, to give her credit, she did delineate between positive magic and malevolent magic.
2). Audible needs to warn readers in the synopsis that this mystery book is sexually graphic so that readers who are sensitive to such things don't stumble upon something they regret paying for. As I am a horror fiction fan, I've read worse both sexual and violent. And quite frankly I enjoyed the one sex scene between the two main protagonists. It was tender and loving. But yeah, I get it that such graphics are not everyone's cup of tea.
These points made, overall the story was well done, good character development, and I thought the narrator was fine.
