Love the story - can’t stand the narrator

Thank goodness the story and characters are interesting. The cadence of the narrator’s reading is distracting and detracts from the flow of the novel.

I blindly bought this novel based upon my previous experience with the Richard Jury series and missed the review warning animal lovers to be aware of the content.
By chapter 13 I'd had enough of listening to the detailed mistreatment of animals.

Lesson learnt; I'll check ALL the reviews for future purchases.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel.
It picks up seamlessly from the first book and develops the story line with just the right amount of intrigue, excitement, and playfulness to leave one hoping there will be an additional novel in the series.

Why on earth did I purchase this book?

What a non-event of a plot!
The title is far more enticing than the actual story. This could have been a real short story rather than a thin plot with lots of padding.
If Audible still allowed ‘purchased’ books to be returned, I would have returned it happily and looked for something else rather than leaving a negative review, but, as purchased books can’t be returned, I’ll share my reviews of (IMO)duds.
The narrator has a pleasant voice.

Can't get past the narration

Oh my goodness...the narration is horrendous. I'm from the UK and agree with another reviewer who mentioned that it sounded as though Shrek/Mike Myers was engaged as the narrator. Even with that humourous image in mind, I had to stop at Chapter 3.
Maybe reading the book will be a better option.
I plan on returning this book for credit.

What a wonderful few snippets of Leslie's life.
If you love Leslie Jordan, you'll love this book.
After listening to some long and intense novels recently, this was a true 'amuse-bouche' for my brain (nothing like a mixed metaphor for a Saturday afternoon!)
Truly entertaining for bringing both laughter and a few tears.
Anecdotal writing at its best.
Look forward to hearing some more from our main Hunker-Downer!

Another winner!

Just spent the entire day listening to this novel. What a gripping, cleverly constructed plot. All the angels are here as well as all the devils.
Definitely no regrets for the hours given to listen to this novel. I look forward to listening to it again in the future.

A truly lovely and gentle story

I enjoyed the film and thought I'd try the book.
What a pleasurable listen.
No harsh realities - just four women, strangers, opening up to the beauties of their world whilst staying in an Italian villa..
Good use of the English language and the dialogue is well done.
Might not be enough 'action' for some but, for me, I found the story and writing to be soothing and engaging and relatable.
If you decide to listen to this novel, I truly hope you enjoy it.
