Giles and Welliver Own These Roles!
Revisado: 01-10-24
Titus Welliver and Peter Giles are great as Bosch and Haller. The story, however, was a bit lacking this time around. I missed their close interactions with their families and Mickey's team - elements that make this franchise so good. Message at the end was exciting, but Connelly seemed like he was losing steam and rushed a bit to the closing.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

The 2nd try was the charm!
Revisado: 08-02-23
I put this down the first time... can't remember why. But when my book club chose it ,I went back and was completely sucked in. I really enjoyed Ms Raisin's narration, except - and this is a big except - her incorrect pronunciation of JACK LALANNE. it's La LANE, dammit! Really bugged me, that ridiculously incorrect "La Lan," ugh.
The story was so interesting. I wish author Bonnie Garmus had taken a little more time with the ending, and would have provided more "show," less tell. I felt like she was trying to tie everything up a little too quickly. But aside from those rwo complaints,, it's a strong 4.5 stars from me.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Weir, Porter catapult an enchanting galactic tale!
Revisado: 03-21-23
Incredibly clever and engaging, with a healthy dose of scientific chatter woven in! A fascinating and thought-provoking story, with as charismatic a narrator as I've ever heard - Tom Hanks sound-alike Ray Porter is at the top of his game. Weir's creativity and talent are awe-inspiring. Dare I hope for a sequel?

Ridiculous, cardboard characters
Revisado: 11-23-19
Author Samantha Downing has good ideas, but her inability to draw these characters in a believable way is a real downer. Page turner? Yes, despite its weaknesses. And bravo to narrator David Pittu, for making the voice of the new female police detective so laugh-out-loud ridiculous!

Great narration, but the characters get short shrift at the end; author Seskis seems to be in a hurry to be done with them, particularly poor Caroline.

Historia
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

Wonderful trestment, but Bennett relies heavily on Scrooge's story instead if investigating the "what-ifs" of Marley's lufe and his other victims. Simon Vance's narration is in a class by itself .

Laborious
Revisado: 12-21-17
Bridget Quinn is a great character but this story was a dud. It was so slow and really not as interesting as her two previous outings. The characters were dull, and the pace was maddening. First time I really had to make an effort to finish the book.
