Boring and Predictable
Revisado: 05-14-23
Boring. Predictable. Lacks creativity and depth. The author used the common 3-step formula of (1) Husband cheats and has a child; (2) Wife finds out years later; (3) Wife decides whether to stay or go.
The narration was okay.

Historia
Hakeem Pinckney was an inspiration. He spent his whole life overcoming the odds. His hearing started deteriorating at a young age, but he never complained. In fact, he won a national championship in football when he was a senior at the SC School for the Deaf and Blind. But when he was 19, he was in a horrific crash with three other family members that forever changed his life. For Hakeem, the injuries would leave him a quadriplegic dependent on a ventilator. In 2010, Alex Murdaugh, Corey Fleming and Palmetto State Bank's CEO Russell Lafitte began representing passengers of the vehicle ...

Historia
Hidden away near the end of Long Island, New York, is a community where affluent African Americans, their friends, and the wannabes have secretly vacationed for more than 75 years. Unlike the bluffs of Martha’s Vineyard, black folks here own five miles of prime beachfront. With a mix of legacy families, new money, hangers-on, and thirsty developers, drama can never be far behind in a place called...the BLACK HAMPTONS.

Car Weber at His Best
Revisado: 02-15-23
Carl Weber, in collaboration with LaJill Hunt, outdid himself with this one. The story was so well written that it played like a movie in my head. The characters were so well-developed that I felt like I knew them. Finally, the audiobook had that rare quality of excellent narration. I am anxiously awaiting a sequel.

Boring, predictable, and typical
Revisado: 11-19-22
I found nothing appealing about this audiobook. The author used the same old formula that many other writers use:
(1) Three or four women who are friends;
(2)At least one woman experiences difficulty related to family, relationships, career, self-esteem, health, or a combination; (3) With the support of at least one of the friends, and with personal growth, the challenged person overcomes the challenge with either a change in circumstances, or a change in the way she views her circumstances. The end.

Historia
Susan Fowler was just twenty-five years old when her blog post describing the sexual harassment and retaliation she'd experienced at Uber riveted the nation. Her post would eventually lead to the ousting of Uber's powerful CEO, but its ripples extended far beyond that, as her courageous choice to attach her name to the post inspired other women to speak publicly about their experiences. In the year that followed, an unprecedented number of women came forward, and Fowler was recognized by Time as one of the "Silence Breakers" who ignited the #MeToo movement.

Dissappointing
Revisado: 09-16-22
The author has an interesting and encouraging story. I admire her determination to accomplish her goals, and her courage to blow the whistle, especially considering her young age. However, I did not like the audiobook. There was too much background information,
too many boring job description details, and too many missed opportunities to peak the interest of the listener/reader. The worst part, though, was the narration. In my opinion, other than professional actors, most authors (and most people generally) are not good book narrators. This author was not an exception.

Good premise. Intolerable narration.
Revisado: 08-21-22
The subject is fascinating. Also, the book seems thorough and well-organized. However, the narrator’s voice was so annoying that I stopped listening very early in the audiobook.

10 out of 10
Revisado: 08-10-22
My comment about every Mary Monroe book/audiobook is the same: Mary Monroe has done it again! As always, Ms. Monroe drew me into her characters’ lives, invoked a range of emotions in me, and kept me entertained. I savored the story because I did not want the story to end. Also,
the “cast” of skilled narrators
is icing on the cake. This book is book 3 of of 3, I can’t wait for book four!

Ruth, a Black woman who played a role in the show, is thrilled to be part of it—until she discovers her performance is all too convincing. Directed by Whitney White, a visceral and truly immersive audio experience that tackles issues of race, privilege, and cultural blindness.

Dark and Repulsive
Revisado: 07-21-22
This is one of the worst stories I have come across since subscribing to Audible seven years ago. The story starts with a scene that would have been intriguing if it had not been used by so many book/story authors, playwrights, and creative event planners for decades. After the intended intrigue, the “story quickly moved to being dark and repulsive. When words like “sick”, “demented”, and “perverted” started coming to mind, I stopped listening. If I ever see this author’s name again, I will run the other way!

I loved it!
Revisado: 07-02-22
Mary Monroe has done it again! She has managed to tell a story that provides everything I love in a book: intrigue; humor; romance; unpredictability; fully developed, interesting, unique characters; and language so vivid and flowing that I could visualize the entire story throughout the entire book.
I just hope a sequel comes out soon.
