Revisado: 03-19-24
Wasn’t sure I was going to like this series after being totally hooked on do smith and kings lake. This one really hooked me after being unsure in the earlier ones. Great character s finally developing and love all their quirks. My favorite author ever!!! Alan’s that is saying something!

Revisado: 12-03-22
For those who love a well written emotional spun tale. I can’t read them too often but when I return to this genre, Kristin Hannah is where I go.

Ridiculous means of solving
Revisado: 04-22-21
I finally gave up with 2 hours to go. It was fine to find the meaning of the clues because they were so obscure the first time or even the second but after that no way Each time the clues meant going back in history... way back searching internet results which barely had a relationship one another. I am talking 1400s and lights of temples, old Napoleon battles and symbols like crests etc it went on and on. Did not care anymore because it was soooooo unrealistic.p

Masterful Stoytelling
Revisado: 03-21-21
I love books with”damaged characters that you root for. You don’t find many characters like Evie. So damaged she is housed away. Gurus is also-damaged but has found his way back and is a forensic psychologist and good to hi soul. The weaving of Evie’s memories of her past and the happenings of the present are masterfully presented. I audio read over 100 books a year 95% mysteries and rarely review but this one was very different and I hope many of you read it

Was fantastic for 85%
Revisado: 11-23-20
I really enjoyed this for 85% but the ending was so contrived and really disappointing. All the pieces were jammed together to make some sort of fit which was soooo disappointing.

Historia
Hen and her husband, Lloyd, have settled into a quiet life in a new house outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Hen (short for Henrietta) is an illustrator and works out of a studio nearby and has found the right meds to control her bipolar disorder. Finally, she’s found some stability and peace. But when they meet the neighbors next door, that calm begins to erode as she spots a familiar object displayed on the husband’s office shelf. The sports trophy looks exactly like one that went missing from the home of a young man who was killed two years ago.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Me Too...Over 100 books my first review
Revisado: 03-24-09
Like the previous reviewer, I have read/heard at least 100 books and while I "loved" many after reading them this one is the only one I felt compelled enough to write a review. It was that memorable! I won't summarize it because you can read that in other reviews, but the combination of well written very realistic prose in the voices of three characters combined with the best of audio performance by the readers put me right there in Jackson Mississippi with all the emotions bubbling inside me as if I were the characters themselves. Go for it...You won't regret it!

Historia
In his million-copy best seller Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond examined how and why Western civilizations developed the technologies and immunities that allowed them to dominate much of the world. Now in this brilliant companion volume, Diamond probes the other side of the equation: what caused some of the great civilizations of the past to collapse into ruin, and what can we learn from their fates?

Thought Provoking
Revisado: 03-09-05
A fascinating view of the many conflicts humans face with limited resources in uncontrolled environments. From tribes in the Easter Island, Yucatan Penninsula, SouthWest Chaco Canyon, Greenland and Iceland to modern day Rwanda, Austalia, and China; Mr. Diamond's review of the fragile environments and human choices is fascinating and thought provoking. It challenges your intellect. Very fascinating to listen to, and a great conversation starter. As always I wish an unabridged version was available although there were no real problems with the way the unabridged was structured; I suspect the occasional gaps in logic are just part of the subjectivity and personal views of the author.

Historia
From inside the walls of Enron, a lone whistleblower attempted to avert the course of events leading to the largest bankruptcy in American history. On August 16, 2001, Sherron Watkins wrote an anonymous letter to Enron's Chairman, Ken Lay, laying out problems with Enron's use of partnerships to hide debt. She warned of a possible scandal that could topple the company if investors and the news media learned of the operations. Then, she revealed her identity and confronted Lay directly.

A window into Corporate America
Revisado: 02-11-05
I really enjoyed this look into one of the biggest scandals of big business. While you may think a book about accounting rules would be quite dry it is anything but. The author does a great job of making the book interesting by making the core of the book a tale of the culture and personalities. Even the explanation of the accounting manipulations Enron cooked up were easily understood by the time you finished because they were explained in many different ways as the story transpires. It is pretty clear that while not all companies engage in such practices; the ethical lines are probably very blurred in many corporations today. Makes you look at the latest investigations like Fannie Mae with a new eye. Also recommend When Genius Failed. Similar enjoyable learning experience of investing within the context of a greed scandal story.
