Must read this wonderful life story
Revisado: 01-23-23
Knowing most of Mel Brook’s movies that my husband and I have viewed, loving his comic Relief, I made time in our routine to schedule listening to Mel Brooks narration. Oh and how enjoyable it was to hear his story.
So much so that we would watch the movies on dvd. Sorry Mr Brooks, it was more convenient since it has been so long ago when I viewed Blazing Saddles on the Big Screen. But after his descriptions it was still, great. So, if you listen to this audible book, I recommend viewing a few of the movies; it so enhances the story line, especially if you are interested in movie making.
To top it off you hear renditions of his musical compositions. They really sent me to another time of the music that you would hear in musicasl of the Thirties, like Top Hat.
Loved this audible book. His narrations were….Mel Brooks aka: Melvin Kaminsky.

Historia
Considered to be French novelist Victor Hugo's masterpiece, Les Miserables, which was published in 1862, is a sprawling historical and philosophical epic that covers from 1815 through the Paris Uprising in 1832. Notable for its many subplots and digressions from the main storyline, the novel's stated aim is a progress from evil to good, from injustice to justice, from falsehood to truth, which can be seen most clearly in the story of the central character Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who struggles to shake the sins of his past and become a good man.

Historia
When the famous German author Sebastian Haffner died at the age of 91 in 1999, a manuscript was discovered among his unpublished papers. The book was begun in 1939, but with the advent of World War II, Haffner had set it aside. His family made the decision to publish it, and the book became a best seller in Germany in 2002. Spanning the period from 1907 to 1933, it offers a unique perspective on how the average educated German grappled with the rise of Hitler.

A complex and contradictory figure, Mussolini won the fascination of many statesmen and writers, and their wives. From his early years raised in the traditions of revolutionary Italian Socialism, to his violent execution by Communist partisans at the end of World War II, we watch Mussolini's power ambitions erode his political ideals, as he evolves from brilliant orator and journalist to empire-building dictator enforcing his authority by death squads.

Historia
At the height of World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was home to 75,000 residents, consuming more electricity than New York City. But to most of the world, the town did not exist. Thousands of civilians - many of them young women from small towns across the South - were recruited to this secret city, enticed by solid wages and the promise of war-ending work. Kept very much in the dark, few would ever guess the true nature of the tasks they performed each day in the hulking factories in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Incredibly informative, book for understanding about how stagnant a society can be when arrogance and self righteousness prevails, lacking love, compassion and understanding. Also displays how the church has learned from the intolerable mistakes it made in assisting Mussolini in his ascension into a Fascist Rule.

Revisado: 09-13-16
Such incredible development of all the characters. Intertwining of the history of Cora & her mother Mabel, which kept my curiosity as to how Cora was dealing with and learning about her own struggles with slavery and her escape to an illusive freedom. Amazing storyline weaving through each character. Highly recommend this book, which I doubt could have been written in the 19th century. Reflections on freedom,...physical freedom, and spiritual freedom, surmounted by greed and avarice; putting a people into bondage. A Must Read!
