The audio quality of this book was terrible. Very inconsistent between chapters and distracting. The content was good, perhaps with too much emphasis on contemporary situations in imagery. I would have preferred a more classic version.

Steve Ron’s ease of language and charming colloquialisms combine with a genuine academic knowledge of his subjects. His experience in the wilderness and with the act of hunting, majestic animals lens credibility to Prozak way of describing this American icon, the Buffalo.

I like the fact the authors read their writing for the audiobook but Dakota could use some more practice reading aloud. O’Neil is funny and a natural orator but their stories had little beyond the recounting of dramatic life events; the lessons or points often dissolving within the narrative. Great life experiences, but story telling that left me wanting more.

Would you try another book from Jack Carr and/or Ray Porter?

Jack Carr may have blown his pulp fiction wad with this one, tapping all the relevant details from his service with the SEAL Teams and wrapping it up in a cliche thriller that is wholly unbelievable. Ray Porter didn't do the book any favors with his awkward inflection and inaccurate emphasis.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something read and written by a veteran not just of war, but of authorship.

How could the performance have been better?

Ray Porter was unconvincing as a Navy Seal, often imparting much more emotion and insecurity to the thoughts and words of Jack Reece.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Attention to technical details about the tools of the SEAL Team trade were interesting. Tactical reloads, ballistics, flanking maneuvers... all interesting, but they don't make up for a completely implausible and hyperbolic tale.

Any additional comments?

Listened to Jack Carr on the "Cleared Hot" podcast. He is an articulate and thoughtful veteran. I hoped to like his first novel, but I cannot say that I did.

Would you listen to Extreme Ownership again? Why?

I have already listened to this book twice, and intend on listening again and again. It's a series of small, compelling stories that serve as a reference manual for effective leadership. It doesn't matter if you pick up in the middle of the book or at the first chapter. It's a great listen.

What did you like best about this story?

The association of combat tactics to business is unique. Jocko and Leif do a great job of conveying universal leadership principals to a wide variety of operational contexts, from the battlefield to the board room.

Which character – as performed by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin – was your favorite?

Jocko sounds like the teacher you always wished you had: articulate and compelling. Leif sounds like Batman; the bad ass you expect him to be. They're both great for their own reasons.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I preferred to stop and reflect between chapters because it was very thought provoking.

Any additional comments?

JockoPodcast is a good addendum to this book as he discusses more of these principals in a variety of contexts.
