Historia
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer.

Could not put it down! I miss the characters in us
Revisado: 05-31-23
Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors. I get very involved with the characters in the storyline. I’m walking around like a zombie today because I kept promising myself that I’ll only read/listen to one more chapter… the truth is, I just could not put it down. This was one of Lisa’s best!

Historia
In the waning days of the Civil War, brothers Prentiss and Landry—freed by the Emancipation Proclamation—seek refuge on the homestead of George Walker and his wife, Isabelle. The Walkers, wracked by the loss of their only son to the war, hire the brothers to work their farm. Prentiss and Landry, meanwhile, plan to save money for the journey north and a chance to reunite with their mother, who was sold away when they were boys. Equal parts beauty and terror, The Sweetness of Water is an epic whose grandeur locates humanity and love amid the most harrowing circumstances.

I kept waiting for my interest to peak, but it just didn’t happen. Seemed more like a book for middle school kids. Disappointed.

Good performance. Story lacking.
Revisado: 05-07-22
Weak storyline. Reminded me of a documentary. I would not recommend if you’re looking for a good mystery.

Historia
Eve Mallow is looking forward to her 15 minutes of fame when Saxford St. Peter is chosen as the location for a new drama series. A devoted people-watcher, Eve is thrilled to learn that TV stars are just as glamorous - and tempestuous - as she’s always imagined. But then someone delivers a bouquet of poisonous flowers to the director Rufus Beaumont, making Eve worry that some of the rivalries she’s noticed are deadly serious. And when Rufus’ body is found in the church where the funeral scene took place, it’s clear that someone’s out for the kill in real life.

Good if you like stories with little depth, and are willing to accept juvenile explanations and details. For me it was a relaxing change, but doubt I will buy more if this is the author’s overall style.

Informative, but not always accurate
- De Holly Pruett en 01-06-19
Not Helpful
Revisado: 07-06-19
Nothing new, so not very helpful. I got the impression that the author was just restating information. Her pronouncement of the word binge as “benge” was a bit annoying, but mostly I just found the book tiresome. There are several positive reviews for this book, so it might be worth a read to some people.
