Storyline for middle aged people! Love it.
Revisado: 03-17-25
It’s a great story line of four women trying to retire but finding out they have a target on them. I enjoyed the book very much except for one thing: the author kept referring to these women as old, elderly seniors. And made the characters out to seem like they were unable to function normally. As a 60-something I can assure you it’s not like that. 85 year olds are elderly, not 65 year olds! My friends and I are all out there living normal, active lives. It’s clear the author isn’t in this age group yet, so she is only imagining a limited life left. How unfortunate for those of us looking for novels that reflect our lifestyles!

I knocked up my best friend's sister. Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news...together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting, and then bam! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist. Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Now I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

Cringe-worthy
Revisado: 02-13-24
Jeez, Penny seems unstable with her increasingly crazy behavior and acts immature. Her inability to communicate like an adult grates on my nerves. The last 2 hours were painful. I felt like someone should have stepped in and got her some psychiatric help. The first half of the book made me laugh a couple times, then Penny would go on rants that didn’t make sense. Calling this book a rom-com is not accurate. I hope other books by this author are not like this. Ugh.

Cheryl tells a great story!

I’m so glad she narrated the book herself- her voice of her own words made it all the more interesting.

Nothing says, "Let's get to know each other!" like lady problems on an epic scale, but Mitch vows to stay by her side. Convinced that his bedrock character has something to do with his Pentecostal church, Rhoda suits up for a brave new world of sparkler pom-poms and hand-clappin' hallelujahs.
Written with her trademark "uproarious, bawdy sense of humor" (Minneapolis Star-Tribune), Mennonite Meets Mr. Right is witty and moving, perfect for anyone who has taken an unexpected detour only to find that new roads lead to rich destinations.

Agony.
Revisado: 07-20-23
I’ve been through two rounds of breast cancer- the first was the most aggressive there is. I just do not get the author. The theological lecture all the way through was just (frankly) fantastical BS. And her opinion of abstinence is entirely the opposite of my experience- I just could not get there. The final straw was their (fiancé and author) consideration of the high school teenager and his brainwashed opinion of intimacy. I felt she was denying human inclination all due to falling into the fiction she was subjected to her whole life. I wanted to scream “snap out of it! You know it’s BS!” On another note, her writing is very good and she’s funny sometimes. However, no more from this author. No more sad brainwashing…..

How can a 61 yr old woman be so dumb?
Revisado: 05-24-23
I’m struggling with this book. Chapter 5 really frustrated me- show up at a campground with nothing but a blanket?? Where has she been all these years?
I’m 62. I don’t use words like “dunce“ or “knucklehead”. No one I know uses those outdated words.
And her husband leaves, takes half out of the bank accounts means he’s moved on. This actually happens to people, so why is she confused? She works editing books, so why is she so broke?
It’s up in the air whether I’ll finish this book. I’ll keep going for now.
I’m looking for books about women of my age that reflect real life. Or at least be funny- which this book is not, so far.
