Sixteen-year-old Alex, his 12-year-old brother James, and their feisty friend Bim have a life-or-death mission. Ruthless armed thugs have captured two innocent wildlife conservationists: the boy's parents. Only the three children have time to engineer a rescue before the kidnappers reach their hideout high in the Himalayas. But saving them means crossing two high passes, negotiating terrifying crags, and fleeing from hungry predators. Surely they can't succeed?

When 16-year-old Alex's parents ask him to deliver a mysterious package to their animal research camp in the Nepali jungle, he and his 12-year-old brother James do not know the trouble they are about to face. An unsuccessful ransom payment leads to an arduous journey through the crisp forests of the Wild West of Nepal in pursuit of the thugs who have kidnapped their parents. Even with the help of their friend Atti, how can three children rescue the parents from armed kidnappers?

In pulsating polluted Kathmandu, and an idyllic village at the foot of the Himalayas, "Doctor Jane" and her engineer husband, Simon, hope to make a difference: Jane to fulfill her vision to heal and advocate for the poor, Simon to avert floods that threaten to devastate the country every monsoon. As they acclimatize and begin to absorb something of an accepting Nepali view of life, they find sanity, compassion, and joy with baby David, who in England was little more than an interesting medical case.
