Historia
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

Veeeeeery long

I guess, unless you are really into this topic and every detail of this time, it is difficult to keep track of names, events and time/dates. Stopped listening about half way and found another book.

Great read and fact to reflect on. Always two sides to the coin but gives food for thought. Recommend to read with Climate Alarmist by Bjørn Lomborg

Historia
Boys are falling behind at school and college because the educational system is structed in ways that put them at a disadvantage. Men are struggling in the labour market because of an economic shift away from traditionally male jobs. And fathers are dislocated because the cultural role of family provider has been hollowed out. The male malaise is not the result of a mass psychological breakdown, but of deep structural challenges. Structural challenges require structural solutions, and this is what Richard V. Reeves proposes in Of Boys and Men.

Mind blowing what is going on and how we risk losing generations of boys and men if we don’t begin marching, preaching, lobbying about the crisis young men and especially black and underprivileged youths.
Great book with lots of facts.

Brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty insist they were commanded to kill by God. In Under the Banner of Heaven, Jon Krakauer's investigation is a meticulously researched, bone-chilling narrative of polygamy, savage violence and unyielding faith: an incisive look inside isolated Mormon Fundamentalist communities in America, this gripping work of non-fiction illuminates an otherwise confounding realm of human behaviour.

Horrible history like any other ‘religion’
Revisado: 09-06-22
In the spirit of the book - I’m an atheist.
Great read to get a better understanding of yet another horrible religion that tries to control people through fear of eternal damnation and social exclusion. Rape and incest is a build in part of the terror and fear regime. But, in the end, is mormonship any different from any other religion on this front? Like any other religion the LDS has changed due to public opinion (to stay relevant and alive) but also here it is similar to any other religion that has changed words/meaning over time. It is just very interesting to study Mormonship as it is such a new and big religion (est 1820). Crazy world where people are so desperate to need a blanket of support in order to function.

Historia
When it comes to climate change, the media, politicians, and other prominent voices have declared that "the science is settled." In reality, the long game of telephone from research to reports to the popular media is corrupted by misunderstanding and misinformation. Core questions - about the way the climate is responding to our influence, and what the impacts will be - remain largely unanswered. The climate is changing, but the why and how aren't as clear as you've probably been led to believe.

Nuanced review of climate/weather change
Revisado: 03-03-22
Great to read a more nuanced look at data and how the climate is changing over time and that not all is going to hell. Great books for Bjørn Lomborg and Bill Gates are available to balance some of the alarmist articles/books out there. Example just google number of/situation of polar bears. The world is not that bad

A bit confused
Revisado: 11-14-21
Surprised how this book was written. Could not (still can’t) figure out if it is based on fictional or ‘real’ data/facts. Really like the idea of creating and owning your focus and like the the idea of getting up at 5am. That being said, going to bed at 9:30pm (assuming about 7.5 h sleep) to make this happen would not lead to a great life with rest of family wondering where and why Dad decided to go do ‘his thing’ every day. Also, ensure to get a massage twice a week…. Also like the 20/20/20 rules and many of the recommendations such as leave/don’t use SoMe like Facebook and other useless/non value adding time-stealers.

At 36 years old, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche was a rising star within his generation of Tibetan masters and the respected abbot of three monasteries. Then one night, telling no one, he slipped out of his monastery in India with the intention of spending the next four years on a wandering retreat, following the ancient practice of holy mendicants. His goal was to throw off his titles and roles in order to explore the deepest aspects of his being.

Spoiled kids goes walk about
Revisado: 10-31-21
Maybe the worst book I have ever read. Finished only to ensure I was not missing anything. Seemed like listening to a rich and spoiled kid had to experience taking care of himself for the entire time only to fail in the task at hand. Funny how ideological or religious people can shape the situation to a narrative easily pulled out of a hat.

Could be some good points here but I feel they get lost in what is behavior and what is noise and then goes amok in statistical references where I get lost/the book looses me. Didn’t finish the book as it got long winded and repetitive.
