Tornadoes, cyclones, tsunamis… Weather can be deadly – especially when it strikes without warning. Millions of Americans could soon find themselves at the mercy of violent weather if the public data behind lifesaving storm alerts gets privatized for personal gain. In his first Audible Original feature, New York Times best-selling author and journalist Michael Lewis delivers hard-hitting research on not-so-random weather data – and how Washington plans to release it.

Historia
The Earth is definitely getting warmer. There's no argument about that, but who, or what, is the cause? While the vast majority of scientists who study the environment agree that humans play a large part in climate change, there is a counterargument. Author Gail Herman presents both sides of the debate in this fact-based, fair-minded, and well-researched book that looks at the subject from many perspectives, including scientific, social, and political.

i belief there is a serious climate problem but that there are issues that could and should be discussed. this read like some election manifesto and thus adds very little understanding. just stating that climate scientists view their science critically without discussing how and where there are issues does not help anyone in search of some truths

Historia
A Washington Post reporter's intimate account of the fallout from the closing of a General Motors assembly plant in Janesville, Wisconsin - Paul Ryan's hometown - and a larger story of the hollowing of the American middle class. This is the story of what happens to an industrial town in the American heartland when its factory stills - but it's not the familiar tale. Most observers record the immediate shock of vanished jobs, but few stay around long enough to notice what happens next, when a community with a can-do spirit tries to pick itself up.

Historia
Why do successful people get things done at the last minute? Why does poverty persist? Why do the lonely find it hard to make friends? These questions seem unconnected, yet Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir show that they are all are examples of a mindset produced by scarcity. Drawing on cutting-edge research from behavioral science and economics, Mullainathan and Shafir show that scarcity creates a similar psychology for everyone struggling to manage with less than they need.

After a slow summer of chasing low-level skips for her cousin Vinnie's bail bonds agency, Stephanie Plum finally lands an assignment that could put her checkbook back in the black. Geoffrey Cubbin, facing trial for embezzling millions from Trenton's premier assisted-living facility, has mysteriously vanished from the hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Now it's on Stephanie to track down the con man. Unfortunately, Cubbin has disappeared without a trace, a witness, or his money-hungry wife. Rumors are stirring that he must have had help with the daring escape...or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive.

a bit back to the good old stories
Revisado: 12-29-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes bc it is well performed with different "voices" and the story is funny
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
less of the childish "american" sex... But I guess that is why a lot of readers reat it :) Myself like grandma mazur and Lula.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughed out loud a couple of times. Some seriously good oneliners

Historia
From both an economic and monetary perspective, the United States is a house of cards; impressive on the outside, but a disaster waiting to happen beneath the surface. In a relatively short period of time, the country has gone from the world's largest creditor to its greatest debtor; the value of the dollar has declined; and manufacturing has given way to non-exportable services.

What did you like best about Crash Proof? What did you like least?
The first part of the book is really good stuffThe last part of the book seemed more a election manifesto... As Schiff seems to be going into politics this may be the case. I am however not really interested in American politics :)

a little too deterministic
Revisado: 06-15-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the national geographic film with the same name. However, the deterministic view and almost anxious way of telling that there are really no differences between people and cultures other than geography and physical environment bored me in the end. Never got through more than 4 hours of listening before giving up
However, I do not hate it so I give it three stars.
