Historia
Fight is the backstage story of bloodsport politics in its rawest form—the clawing, backstabbing, and rabble-rousing that drove Donald Trump into the White House and Democrats into the wilderness. At every turn, the combatants went for the jugular, whether they were facing down rivals in the other party or their own.

Excellent book!
Revisado: 04-09-25
I am a walk away from the Democratic party and probably have a bias against legacy journalists. Allen and Barnes are a credit to their profession. They praise and criticize both sides of the aisle and their insider details are fascinating. I am very much a MAGA person, but my evaluation of Harris was elevated by this narrative. She treated Joe Biden much better than many members of her party and I think that she had gratitude and appreciation for his selection of her Vice President. She has a very difficult relation with her father, and I think she genuinely has positive regards for Biden.

Great book!

Ms. Borman is knowledgeable, and I appreciate her approach to history. I do not think this narrative is political or P.C. She transports the listener and offers a fascinating view of the lives of these important historical characters. Being a princess back in the day was quite difficult sometimes!

Published in six volumes between 1776 and 1781, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - for all its renown - can be intimidating. It contains one point five million words, an estimated 8,000 footnotes, a cast of 10,000 historical figures, and a timeline of more than 1,000 years. Yet even today, Gibbon's historical chronicle demands to be understood.

Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire
Revisado: 12-31-23
I stayed up way too late listening to this as it is enthralling. I hope to get through the original lenghty series but this is a history of Western Civilization from the Roman Empire to the Renaissance. Gibbon's take on the creation of the Islamic religion is most interesting as he admired Islamic leaders and he felt the religion was "rational." We need to get past TikTok history and read the classics.

Historia
Following Caesar’s assassination and Mark Antony’s defeat of the conspirators who killed Caesar, two powerful men remained in Rome—Antony and Caesar’s chosen heir, young Octavian, the future Augustus. When Antony fell in love with the most powerful woman in the world, Egypt’s ruler Cleopatra, and thwarted Octavian’s ambition to rule the empire, another civil war broke out. In 31 BC one of the largest naval battles in the ancient world took place—more than 600 ships, almost 200,000 men, and one woman—the Battle of Actium.

Great historian!
Revisado: 11-06-23
Barry Strauss is one of my favorite historians as he is not interested in pushing contemporary political agendas.
The book is excellent but the narrator is not animated.

The fourth and last volume in Churchill's famous account spans 1815 to 1901. It closes when the British Empire is at its peak, with a staggering one-fifth of the human race presided over by the longest reigning monarch in British history: Queen Victoria.

Fascinating
Revisado: 12-18-22
I have been teaching American history survey classes for almost a quarter of a century. Churchill is a gifted author and his knowledge of history is impressive. He is full of surprises. This is not the book for those easily triggered by politically incorrect rhetoric. He sometimes seems almost shockingly traditional and sometimes his comments are quite progressive.
When I was at the University of California, I was informed that Churchill's works should be avoided. I am glad that he is making a comeback!
