Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

History made entertaining
Revisado: 09-12-22
My family LOVED this book. We have now gone through the whole series and are eagerly awaiting the next.
A note about other reviews: This book does generalize a bit, but if you're looking to use it as your history curriculum, that's ridiculous. It's not meant for that. Instead, it's meant to spark interest in a subject that is often thought of as boring. We listen to the stories in our homeschool, and it gets the kids interested enough to go do research into the details. We are aware, unlike some of the other reviewers, that this book is meant as a light hearted foray into incredibly interesting history.
As for cursing? Please. Your kids see worse online and in schools. Unless you are an incredibly uptight person raising incredibly sheltered children, there is nothing shocking or inappropriate about the language in this book. You'll hear worse in line at the market.
Overall, I recommend the crap outta these books! If I could give them 10 stars, I would, because my middle schoolers love history now, and it started with the story of Cope & Marsh.

Living and slaving in Fill City One, you get used to the smell. We call it the Everpresent Stink. But every once in a while, on a spring day with a breeze, it clears away enough to remind us that there is something more out there. Most Fillers' wildest dreams would be just to get past the walls and live in the mainland. But my dream? It’s a little bigger. I’m going to Mars.

NOT for hard SF fans. But if you're looking for a fast paced easy read that is highly entertaining without taking itself too seriously, check this out. I got it on a whim cuz I had nothing else to listen to. I'm glad I did.

Stanzi rocks this.
Revisado: 03-07-22
I discovered Stanzi on TikTok quite by accident. And a lucky accident it was. She's hilarious, and her portrayal of the dynamics between god and satan are brilliant. But my favourite side of her is the side that loves herself and is fiercely unafraid of standing up to those who would have the audacity to judge. Her bizarre genius carries over to the podcast format almost flawlessly. The episodes are short, so that's a bonus for commitment-phobes; they are clever, so that's a bonus for wit-maniacs, and even in their unabashed snarkiness, they convey a sense of inclusion and gishiness that comes off like a neon billboard in your oubliette, reminding you to stop taking yourself so seriously, start appreciating the finite number of days you have left in this life, and focus on making yourself happy instead of tearing down the happiness in others. Thanks, Stanzi, for being awesome.

Where's #5!?
Revisado: 01-08-22
This damn guy. Gubson's fantastic imagination has had me up until sunrise almost every night for a fortnight, because I can't stop listening to see what happens next. Each book gets better and better. This one, though...damn. It's a real gut puncher, in all the best, most awful ways. And it's a cliffhanger!?!? Where's #5, Gibson!?!
You know it's good writing when it causes such intense emotional reactions. I started listening to one of his other series, the Villains Rule series, last week as a break from writing a particularly difficult sequence in my current story. I figured I could use a fluffy book to drone in the background while I played ps4 and gave my storytelling mind a break. Imagine my surprise when, almost 2 weeks later, I've finished that series AND all of the books in this Technomancer series! It's not often that an author can blindside me like that, but he did. Kick-ass!
And the narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, is remarkable. His delivery of Father Grim is perfect.
Buy this book. But first, read the 3 that come before it. Trust me, the internet stranger that insists you'll love this.

Historia
Immediately after escaping Flotsam Prison, Salem finds himself in the middle of nowhere with the mad giant Chael and the teenage stowaway TJ. Salem’s mission is simple: find the Tears of God in seven days, or else his land, and the people residing there, will either be sold to a demonic lord or face death. The only things in his way are demonic Abominations, shape-shifting bison, murderous men, and the last remnant of an angelic choir. Salem pits everything he has, and everything he is, to hold on to hope and save his people. No pressure.

Binged!
Revisado: 01-04-22
I've now binge-listened to 6 of Gibson's books in the past 2 weeks. (I started with the Villains series). His writing is not polished literature; rather, his style is actually a bit simple. BUT his characters are intriguing, well-rounded, and written expertly. His storylines are fresh and unique, and well worth the sleep I've lost because I couldn't bear to turn off my headphones and go to sleep without listening to "just one more chapter."

Great concept, execution pretty good
Revisado: 11-30-21
The idea was intriguing, a fresh idea in a market flooded with zombie books. I liked it, and will probably buy the next 2, but I'm a forgiving reader. It reads like a frat boy wrote it. The main character has a bit too much boy scout with more testosterone than would befit a guy that is constantly upset by people killing zombies. He is immediately thrown into bed with a girl he just met, and the sex scene was jarring. Very short, a little too penthouse letters (and that's saying something, cuz I love the letters), and I'm telling you right now, if you're gonna write those scenes out in explicit detail, you gotta make it believable for the girl to be satisfied too... if it's not long enough for me to be satisfied by the end, ain't no way she is, dude. Cuz nobody loves me like me, and that guy couldn't tell his a$$ from a hole in the girl.
Other than that, I liked it. It was entertaining, and, I think in a few years this author is gonna do great things. So I'm gonna go buy the next one and see how it goes.

Revisado: 09-24-21
This is the second time I've ended a book in this series feeling awed, baffled, incredulous... the concepts are unique and mind-blowing, and the twists unpredictable. If you are waffling about whether or not to try this series, do it. Just do it. I'm rendered speechless, and that never happens to me.

Doug wasn’t sure whether he should trust Satan. The red flag was that he said he was Satan. But the deal was good: Listen to Satan’s story in exchange for some donuts. And Doug only half-fulfilled his part of the bargain. But maybe he should have listened better, because during his friend Bryce’s next scheme (theft with light to moderate treason - the usual), Doug and the rest of his friends - Lulu (the fun one) and Charlene (the not fun one) - end up with a powerful artifact, a small metal cube with world-ending power that Lulu decorated with bunnies.

Good, I wanted more
Revisado: 09-01-21
Story was a neat concept, narrator was excellent. Totally avoided the dreaded "info dump," but in doing so, went just a little too far the other direction. I appreciate no-nonsense storytelling (thank you for not taking 2 pages to describe a chair!) but I did find myself wanting just a *little* bit more backstory. The characters were well rounded, but struggled to show their fullness. They had distinct personalities and motivations but I didn't know what those motivations really were, so a bit more info would have been great, because I liked them and just wanted to know more.

Awesome story, ALMOST perfect narrator
Revisado: 08-27-21
Narrator was awesome except her "yelling voice". The characters yell quite a bit, and every time I had to listen to the not-quite-a-yell voice it annoyed the heck outta me. That being said, I wouldn't want any other narrator for this story, because she made it come alive for me in every other way. This was my 3rd Hendrix audiobook, and I gotta say, he's gained a fan for life. Imaginative, funny, and a little bit creepy, This story had me laughing, crying, angry, shocked, and nostalgic. Good job, man.

up all night listening
Revisado: 07-28-21
I had picked up a paperback copy of this book while on vacation, because the format of the hard copy is a creative masterpiece (look it up, it's worth it). However, I hadn't gotten a chance to read it, because I generally read my Kindle these days. So when I saw it on audible, I bought it right away, and was delighted that the story inside was as brilliant as the art outside. The narrators were fabulous; Tai Sammoms was the perfect choice for the MC's voice, and, honestly, Bronson Pinchot could read the back of a cereal box and it would be audio gold.
