Historia
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

What a disappointment ...
Revisado: 10-21-19
... that I'm done with the book! I tried to keep from listening to it for as long as I could. The longer I waited to start it, the longer I'd have to savor it. But, couldn't help myself. As with all of Peter Grainger's 'Kings Lake' sagas, this one is a wonderful read. And yes ... when it was all done ... I was disappointed. Disappointed that there's nothing more to move on to. Yet. I can only hope Mr. Grainger can crank out another one. I enjoy this one more than I'd expected to. I just might have to go back to the beginning.

Historia
While out walking Sarge, her sister's bichon frise, Tricia is led by the agitated dog to a man lying in a gazebo. She's startled when she recognizes Pete Renquist, the president of the Stoneham Historical Society, who appears to be suffering from cardiac arrest. When Pete later dies in the hospital, the discovery of a suspicious bruise and a puncture mark on his arm suggests he may have been murdered.

Any additional comments?
I've gone this far, I might as well go on to the next. I saw the ending coming a mile away, so it was no big surprise. The surprise, however, continues to be Tricia's amazing unlikeability. Unapologetically, humorlessly judgemental. The author must have awful food issues. I don't think we've ever seen Tricia get through a meal without 'losing her appetite' ... or trying to fat shame anyone who even looks twice at a dessert or potato chip. And even though it has no relationship to the story whatsoever, anyone she meets who fits the bill, needs to be described by how fat they are. Because it's so unnecessary, it's a little jarring to hear. I hate to say it ... but you DO find yourself thinking 'well she deserved THAT' every time something awful happens to her. She always accuses everyone she can think of and then hopes no one will think ill of her. Everyone simply loves her and by the end of every single book, I ask myself why. I was going to quit the series, but when I saw I only had one left, I figured I'd see what happens to the other characters who are rendered much more entertaining to know.

Get over yourself, Tricia!!!
Revisado: 01-29-17
Any additional comments?
Tricia Miles is perhaps one of the most irritatingly entitled characters I have ever run across. She seems to be bitter about everything, grateful about nothing in her truly charmed existence. 'Judgemental' should be her middle name. With all that said, I continue to listen to this series because it generally ticks all the boxes for me. Although every time Tricia frowns again, or is sad she's ordered the same salad again, or is disappointed in someone's behavior again, or mentions how SHE was the unloved, unwanted sister, again ... or feels like everyone owes her an explanation for something that's absolutely none of her business ... again ... I have to take a deep breath and just power through the story. Now I just count every time I want to slap her ... then move on to the next book hoping she's going to change her insufferable attitude.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Spectacular
Revisado: 10-29-15
One of the most entertaining 'reads' in a long time. RC Bray's narration is pitch perfect. The story is gripping. I had just seen the movie version (which I loved) and the book matches it for entertainment value. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Definately worth a listen ...
Revisado: 08-30-11
Really entertaining read. Enjoyed every minute. My ONLY negative criticism would be that Shatner's extremely well known speech cadence sometimes gets in the way of actually HEARING the story. On headphones it's fine ... in the car, it's necessary to mess with the volume knob all the time. Other than that ... I loved it and am still amazed at the life he's led.
