Historia
In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Historia
In 2003, the Special Forces soldiers entered an area later called "the most dangerous place in Afghanistan". Here, where the line between civilians and armed zealots was indistinct, they illustrated the Afghan proverb "I destroy my enemy by making him my friend." Fry recounts how they were seen as welcome guests rather than invaders. Soon after their deployment ended, the Pech Valley reverted to turmoil. Their success was never replicated.

Historia
At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

A must read, or listen...
Revisado: 10-16-15
One of the better military history books I've listened to, ever. The performance was well done, other than a couple of mispronounced military jargon words, storyline was fast paced and the book really kept my attention. Normally I only listen while commuting to work, but I found myself plugging in my earphones around the house to listen. Get the book, you won't be disappointed.

Historia
In the late summer of 1968, several intelligence sources stated that numerous American POW's were being held in bamboo cages for transport by vehicle up the Ho Chi Minh Trail from the North Vietnamese Army stronghold the Plei Trap Valley. Special Forces CPT Joe Dietrich and 1LT Don Bendell volunteered to lead a helicopter assault into the Plei Trap Valley with 100 Montagnard mercenaries as the point element of a joint task force of soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division.

Should have listened to the last guy....
Revisado: 09-02-15
The last review I read was right...the author skips around, is hard to follow and confusing at times. I thought I was going to read about the Plei Trap Valley, but I think this was more about his romance with Ming, the woman he cheated on his wife with. Thanks for your service sir, but I as hoping to hear about POW rescue missions and the like. Not about picnics with Ming and the "passionate love you made."
Do yourself a favor and skip the book.

America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point. Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.

Not only is this a great story, but the performance was excellent and the book was full of great "prepper" ideas. If you're serious about prepping (which I'm not, but should be more of I guess), read/listen to this book with a pen and paper handy. The author throws out great ideas, products, other authors and must reads for anybody interested in the "post-financial collapse of America." I had a great time listening to this book, and highly recommend it!

Historia
In Legend, acclaimed best-selling author Eric Blehm takes as his canvas the Vietnam War as seen through a single mission that occurred on May 2, 1968. A 12-man Special Forces team had been covertly inserted into a small clearing in the jungles of neutral Cambodia - where US forces were forbidden to operate. Their objective, just miles over the Vietnam border, was to collect evidence that proved the North Vietnamese Army was using the Cambodian sanctuary as a major conduit for supplying troops and materiel to the south via the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Incredible story, OK book.
Revisado: 07-30-15
My review is solely on the book, and not the events covered in the book. Benavidez is a hero, there's no doubt about that. My issue with this book is it seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time talking about Vietnam War issues in general as opposed to Benavidez' story. The actual events that led to his CMH could have been told in a chapter or two. Yes, some of his life pre-military was written about also. I bought this book for his story, and not necessarily to learn about all the politics that went into the war.

Historia
Over the course of his 27 years with the DEA, Ed Follis bought eight-balls of cocaine in a red Corvette, negotiated multimillion-dollar deals onboard private King Airs, and developed covert relationships with men who were not only international drug traffickers but - in some cases - operatives for al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Shan United Army, or the Mexican federation of cartels. Follis was, in fact, one of the driving forces behind the agency's radical shift from a limited local focus to a global arena.

Historia
A white-knuckle account of the First Infantry Division’s harrowing D-Day assault on the eastern sector of Omaha Beach - acclaimed historian John C. McManus has written a gripping history that will stand as the last word on this titanic battle. Nicknamed the Big Red One, First Division had fought from North Africa to Sicily, earning a reputation as stalwart warriors on the front lines and rabble-rousers in the rear. Yet on D-Day, these jaded combat veterans melded with fresh-faced replacements to accomplish one of the most challenging and deadly missions ever.

Good read, no major complaints
Revisado: 07-30-15
This book is definitely a micro view of the events that occurred on D-Day, and in particular to the men of the Big Red 1. While there was some overview of buildup and grand scheme events, it was mostly about the events that happened to individuals on the ground. If you're looking for a general historical perspective, there are other books out there for that. This isn't that book. If you're looking for a deeply personal account of the landing, this is it!

When Navy SEAL Adam Brown woke up on March 17, 2010, he didn’t know he would die that night in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan - but he was ready: In a letter to his children, not meant to be seen unless the worst happened, he wrote, "I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me."

An incredible story
Revisado: 06-29-15
What an incredible story about a man who turned his life around. This candid look inside Adam Brown's life shows all that choices we make are long lasting, and the consequences are felt for years. Even though he broke the cycle of drug abuse, the effects were long lasting and haunted him for the rest of his life.
Despite his difficult past, he made the effort to better himself and recognized his need to do something for the greater good. Ultimately giving his life for his team and country, Adam is a man to be looked up to and admired. God bless his family, his teammates, and the United States for his example and sacrifice.

This lecture series was a great refresher to my college economic class days...although a bit dated, it's interesting to see how things have developed since the recording of the lectures. The lecturer has been spot on in some of his assessments as to how he believed the economy will behave, versus how it has actually turned out.
