Historia
Summer 1924: On the eve of a glittering Society party, by the lake of a grand English country house, a young poet takes his life. The only witnesses, sisters Hannah and Emmeline Hartford, will never speak to each other again....Winter 1999: Grace Bradley, 98, one-time housemaid of Riverton Manor, is visited by a young director making a film about the poet's suicide. Ghosts awaken, and memories, long consigned to the dark reaches of Grace's mind, begin to sneak back through the cracks.

Kate Morton is becoming one of my favorites.
Revisado: 07-25-12
I've listened to two of her books--The House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden. I enjoyed both for different reasons. The Forgotten Garden was a little more predictable but it was also a little darker, which I liked. The House at Riverton I felt was more suspenseful and mysterious. Others listeners may think the reverse.
Kate does a fantastic job of taking the reader between present and past without creating too much confusion, I think. Excellent books. Can't wait to download the next one.
Narration is great as well. Caroline Lee does a tremendous job.

Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

First listen of Adrian McKinty--instant fan!!!
Revisado: 07-25-12
My favorite genre is historical fiction and my second favorite genre is crime thrillers. This has both and I couldn't get enough. I definitely am not an expert on the "Troubles" in Ireland during the late 60s to early 90s and have enjoyed learning more about it through various books. This has been my favorite so far. I really enjoyed Sgt. Duffy's character--intelligent, down-to-earth, and witty. Very cool book.
I don't know if this is the only novel with Sgt. Duffy's character or if there are others as I would love to read more with him. But I will certainly be listening to other McKinty novels.
This is the second time hearing Gerard Doyle. He's great and cannot imagine anyone else narrating these stories about Ireland.

Historia
History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

I love historical fiction.....
Revisado: 07-25-12
especially about Jacobites. I really enjoyed the Winter Sea and would definitely recommend it. The story was fun and the characters were charming and interesting in both the Jacobite rising error and the present time. The two story lines surprised me at first and was a little off putting, as I wanted the book to be more of the history. But as the book read on, I found myself enjoying both storylines and in the end was very pleased.

Love Stephanie Plum
Revisado: 10-01-09
I started with book 1 on Audible and fell in love with the character, Stephanie Plum, and the narrator, Lori Petty. I listened to a sample of Loralei King and swore I was not going to listen any further (I loved Lori Petty's Jersey accent). But when it came time for book 7, I caved because I wanted more Stephanie Plum. After listening to this book -- I must say, Loralei King does a tremendous job and I've become a fan. It takes me some time to get use to different narrators but after the first little bit, I was able to adapt. I'm glad I caved because I really enjoy Loralei's rendition of Stephanie and all the other wonderful characters. As for the book itself--loved it--true to form for the series and Janet Evanovich.

Hooked
Revisado: 09-07-09
until I discovered Lori Petty doesn't narrate any of the remaining Stephanie Plum books. Lori Petty is great and made the audio books for me. I love her Jersey accent and quirky voice.
I'm not hip on any of the other narrators except maybe Debi Mazar so after listening to those, I'll finish the rest of the books by reading not listening. I think this is a great series and really enjoy Janet's style of writing.
