Historia
In September of 1990, in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, sixteen-year-old Lisa Pruett was on her way to a midnight tryst with her boyfriend when she was viciously stabbed to death only thirty feet from the boy's home. The murder cast a palpable gloom over the upscale community and sparked accusations, theories, and rumors among Lisa's friends and peers. With a fresh perspective and painstaking research, James Renner reconstructs the events leading up to and following that heartbreaking night. What emerges is a portrait of a community seething with dark undercurrents.

Historia
In Admit This to No One, we meet a group of women connected to a central figure either personally or professionally, and for better or for worse - an all-powerful and elusive speaker of the House, whose political career has only stopped short of being presidential due to his myriad extra-marital affairs. The speaker’s daughters from his several failed marriages have a complicated relationship with him to say the least - alternating between longing for his affection or bristling with resentment, and occasionally relief at being left out of the spotlight.

On the edges of DC’s political scene, these stories are tight and edgy. Lovers of the craft of writing will appreciate this master’s use of point of view and her beautifully textured characters.

Excellent!
Revisado: 03-07-21
This should be required reading for high school civics classes. I often questioned Obama’s reasons for decisions he made throughout his presidency. He answers all of them. While I can imagine some won’t agree with his ultimate decisions on many issues, hearing his justifications for actions he took and those he did not enhanced my respect for the man and his character.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

This was a brief delightful look at coffee and tea, two drinks we all are used to drinking. Drinking cups of either will have more meaning for me going forward.

How to answer critics
Revisado: 12-04-19
This book is example of how to respond to public accusations and criticism. The writers respond to the years of public defamation and countless public statements from prominent public leaders calling them dishonest and unethical. Using publicly available sources and documentation, the writers lay out a well researched retelling of events surrounding Trumps election to the presidency and their Republican and Democratic funded efforts to investigate Trump’s well documented shady financial history. I’d love to read a book that provides so much evidence and transparency from those that find themselves seemingly rightfully so in the Fusion crosshairs.

Historia
Cinelle Barnes was barely three years old when her family moved into Mansion Royale, a stately ten-bedroom home in the Philippines. Filled with her mother’s opulent social aspirations and the gloriously excessive evidence of her father’s self-made success, it was a girl’s storybook playland. But when a monsoon hits, her father leaves, and her mother’s terrible lover takes the reins, Cinelle’s fantastical childhood turns toward tyranny she could never have imagined.

Historia
Newly transplanted to the big city of Chicago, she is one of the rare few to leave her small working-class town in Iowa, let alone for a prestigious university. She is not driven by academic ambition, nor is she a social butterfly. Her true gift is an ability to understand the needs of others and to reflect back the version of themselves they wish to see, rendering herself invisible. Deftly, she conceals her deeply troubled past - especially from her charismatic yuppie-in-the-making best friend and roommate.

Revisado: 04-25-18
Reading Pietrzyk’s ‘Silver Girl’ is like watching Bryce Harper slug a mammoth home run. Crazy talent, honed by years of practice, delivering a jaw-dropping hit. Like the great baseball player, this writer has swagger. Instead of a bat flip and the slow jog around the bases, Pietrzyk sprinkles literary nuggets through out ‘Silver Girl’ to remind readers of her talent and make it impossible to leave this story behind.
