This one kept me entertained. No sugar coating unrealistic truths here. I appreciate honesty in writing. This was all of the above with an ending I could live with.

Normally Darla, the ghost that haunts the Redemption Inn, behaves herself. Relatively speaking. Nancy, the owner of the Redemption Inn, swears that Darla is harmless. At least, mostly harmless. Maybe she plays a few pranks on some unsuspecting guests, but it's all in good fun. Until one of the hotel guests is found dead at the bottom of the stairs, and Darla is the one who's blamed.

I love the redemption books and have enjoyed Michelle’s writing. This one was good, twistyish. The narrator was really difficult to listen to. I almost didn’t continue with it because of how annoying it sounded. Definitely a fan of the books though.

Historia
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

Dark, a little twist, but drawn out a tad.
Revisado: 09-25-24
If I could have given this a 4.5 that would have been more realistic but overall I enjoyed listening to the story. The detail of characters and happenings was so thorough and graphic that you cannot help but “see” the story playing in your mind. I did think the mother and daughter characters were a bit annoying. Mother was so traumatized by her horrible past with her abusive husband that nothing phased her. A dead boy with no legs dragging himself about your house would never be normal and a suitable roommate in the real world regardless of how you’ve lived. However, if you imagine that the mother does have a bit of a mental problem, you can forgive her “everything is acceptable” attitude. The daughter is over the top, but I do know people like this in real life, pissed at the world and lacking a normal tone of voice. So overall I liked the story. The ending was missing a piece of the puzzle where the police interaction left off and the happily ever after began. The town would have burned that place to the ground. My 4 cents.

Some of the reviews say it takes a while to get good, so I will finish it. On chapter 39 and the narrator is annoying and the story has taken 100 years and accomplished nothing.

Historia
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Was a good story. I didn’t know which way the story would end. Kept me listening for sure. I like the narrator which is 99% of the audio book in my opinion. It’s a good listen. Recommend 10 out of 10.

Although I figured out the plot twist early on, this was well written and a great listen. Being from Georgia, it felt familiar with mentions of local streets, towns, and of course The Varsity. I no longer live in the south but I enjoy listening to narrators with southern accents. It’s worth the listen. I’m about to start book 2. Can’t wait!
