Vera Brittain and the First World War tells the remarkable story of the author behind Testament of Youth while charting the book's ascent to become one of the most loved memoirs of the First World War period. Such interest is set to expand even more in this centenary year of the war's outbreak.

Excellent complement to listening to Testament of Youth

This gives wonderful additional insight into TOY and Vera Britain’s life. The ending few minutes about her brothers death are so tragically sad to the modern listener.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

Almost unbelievable story of perseverance, endurance and survival.
Revisado: 11-27-23
What a story this is. An unbelievable story of survival in the most extreme of circumstances. If it was a work of fiction you couldn’t believe it was possible. Brilliant told by the reader also.

Historia
London’s Slough House is where the washed-up MI5 spies go to while away what’s left of their careers. The “Slow Horses,” as they’re called, have all disgraced themselves in some way to get relegated here. Maybe they messed up an op badly, or got in the way of an ambitious colleague. Maybe they just got too dependent on the bottle—not unusual in this line of work. One thing these failed spies have in common, though, is they all want to be back in the action. Now the Slow Horses have a chance at redemption.

Jackson Lamb Rocks

I grew up in London and think the dialogue, vernacular and sense of humor in Slow Horses is spot on in terms of authenticity. Brilliant characters supported by brilliant writing.
