loved the story
Revisado: 04-10-24
can't wait to read the next installment! I struggled with the audio volume on this though. it varies far too much, too quiet most of the time and then a couple characters' voices are way louder. the overall volume is too quiet for me to listen anywhere that was moderately noisy and I don't have that problem with other books so that was annoying and made it take longer for me to be able to finish this. thankfully the story was worth it. while predictable, still enjoyable.

Historia
Stop me if you’re heard this one: Veteran comic Chauncy and social-media star José are the very definition of “opposites attract”. But sparks, and jokes, fly after the two of them embark upon a beautiful romance for the ages...two vastly different ages. Starring Drew Droege and Gabe Gonzalez, The Comedians is a modern queer love story, told through individual stand-up acts. We hear the ups and downs of their journey—from falling hard to failing harder than a botched punchline—in this hilariously relatable play about love, loss, and, above all, "The Laugh".

i should have read the reviews. i liked the beginning but it quickly got depressing. depression, suicide, addiction. no HEA here. ugh. at least it was short.

not awesome on own...
Revisado: 12-26-21
entertaining, but I think would.be better enjoyed after part 1 which I skipped because it's not included. it also seems to need another story after it, which I don't know if that exists yet... there is no real conclusion.

Meh
Revisado: 09-12-21
Sadly, unlike the first book, I never became invested in any of the characters (except a moderate interest in Brandstetter himself) so it fell a but flat for me. I'm not a big murder mystery genre fan overall so I need a little more in my story to feel engaged.

Historia
Fadeout is the first of Joseph Hansen’s twelve classic mysteries featuring rugged Dave Brandstetter, an insurance investigator who is contentedly gay. When entertainer Fox Olson’s car plunges off a bridge in a storm, a death claim is filed, but where is Olson’s body? As Brandstetter questions family, fans, and detractors, he grows certain Olson is still alive and must find him before the would-be killer does. Suspenseful and wry, shrewd and deeply felt, Fadeout remains as fresh today as when it startled readers more than thirty years ago.

Quite enjoyable, glad I gave it a try!
Revisado: 09-09-21
I quite enjoyed this! I gave it a shot despite mixed reviews on audible because it was included/free. I liked it a lot more than I expected. There were certainly moments of confusion when scenes change where we aren't immediately told what's going on but that's ok. I cared about Fox and wished for a happy ending. Alas no happy endings can be found in this story! I look forward to reading more in this series.

slow but enjoyable for the characters
Revisado: 09-05-21
yes it was slow, surely more interesting if you're into the time period and train aspect, but it paid off well enough for me. I enjoyed the narrators voice, it was appropriate for a historical. I found myself invested in the characters more than expected. I do wish that we had been able to see further on in their story to see how life works out for them. it was also a bit insta-love which I'm not a big fan of, but it was nice.
For anyone wary or curious, it's not at all even remotely explicit, just some kissing.

should have been a British narrator
Revisado: 11-19-19
I Hate that this was done with an American accent. Besides it being stated as being in England, there's frequent usage of British words/terms/phrases that just sound completely wrong coming out of his mouth. I like Michael Pauley, but not for this title. it completely distracted me.

Historia
Theo Wallace usually laughs at the horoscopes his mom sends. Still hung up on his ex-girlfriend and practically friendless, this one begs him to reconsider. Because a friendship that stuck, that thrived, well, that would be a reason to leave past pains behind and look to the bright future. When his sister Leone challenges him to find her the perfect date for a spring wedding, Theo uses it as a chance to make new friends.

A glorious book
Revisado: 10-07-19
One of my absolute favorite books! The narration is decent, but doesn't quite do justice to the perfection that is this book. I recommend reading it if at all possible but if you only do audio, then don't hesitate and listen to this one now! (Otherwise, go read it now!!!)
