Historia
Adam Turner works the mid-dawn shift at his local radio station. From 12am to 6am, it’s his job to fill the airtime with old songs, inane chatter, and the occasional talkback caller. It’s a long way from his prime-time slot from over a decade ago, when he was a star in the making. Now there’s no producers, no billboards, no stakes, and not many listeners. His frequent callers are drunk students headed home from a night out, or long-range truck drivers. He is completely alone in the studio from midnight until dawn every night. And then one night at 12:45am, he gets a different kind of call.

Predictable
Revisado: 02-07-24
Slight spoilers ahead. I figured the culprit early on, but did not predict the accomplice. The villain was cartoonishly evil but otherwise personality free, As previous reviewers pointed out, the ending seemed implausible and pandering. The Karma Houdini ending ruined an otherwise decent story. Narrator was good.

Unrealistic ending
Revisado: 12-10-23
The main character was unlikable. When she's suspicious of someone, instead of strategically gathering her evidence against them, she's brash, pushy and accusatory to the point where the suspect becomes uncooperative with her, whereas they were more open with her before. She's naive and confrontational when there is no need to be. The ending felt rushed and unrealistic. The author seemed to try too hard for a happy ending, ignoring US law and how people react in certain situations. Narrator was good.

Awful main character
Revisado: 09-30-23
The book should be renamed 'Idiot Woman Ignores Red Flags'. The main character goes out of her way to put herself in dangerous situations. She ignores warnings about the main male character, even when the warnings are coming from herself. She's mousy when she should be assertive and antagonizing when she should keep quiet. It's easy for the antagonist to control the situation when the main character is this stupid. Narrator did well.

Lots of twists and turns
Revisado: 06-11-23
I enjoyed the book, it was unpredictable and had several twists. I enjoyed the narrator, but at times her tone of voice did not match the action. Overall a good listen.

Historia
Detective Harry Jordan sees his lake home as a respite from solving crimes on the streets of Boston. The Osborne family views their cottage as a way to avoid the distractions of life - especially for Wally Osborne, a famous horror writer who seems to need the peace and quiet more than anyone. One night, Harry is walking alongside the lake when the night is rocked by an explosion: the Havnel house is engulfed in a conflagration, and young Bea is seen fleeing, hair on fire, and plunging into the lake.

Ok, narrator miscast
Revisado: 05-31-23
The book was ok. Not as suspenseful as I had hoped. So much talk of food as filler, it could practically double as a recipe book.
The male narrator seemed miscast. He sounds very grandfatherly, like Jack Lemon or Karl Malden. His voice lacked the grit usually associated with mystery/suspense audio book narrations, it was somewhat distracting.

Great storyline and engaging characters
Revisado: 05-20-23
This book was very enjoyable. The plot was fast paced and engaging. There was even a tearjerker subplot that was very moving. The two lead characters had good chemistry and the voice actors brought them to life well.

Difficult to get through
Revisado: 03-20-23
After listening to this story as well as another book by this author, it seems she has a tendency for having her female characters go through horrendous verbal and physical abuse at the hands of male and female characters. She writes about female characters physical abuse in graphic detail and almost with sadistic glee, It really stands apart from the rest of the narrative which is poorly written and unevenly paced. She also seems to have contempt for motherhood and healthy female friendships. Expect the abusers to suffer little to no consequences for years of abuse while the victims suffer for the remainder of their lives. Characters are unlikable and inconsistently written. Contrived plot twists. Narrator was good.
