Historia
When her whole life collapsed, Rae still had books. Dying, she seizes a second chance at living: a magical bargain that lets her enter the world of her favorite fantasy series. She wakes in a castle on the edge of a hellish chasm, in a kingdom on the brink of war. Home to dangerous monsters, scheming courtiers and her favourite fictional character: the Once and Forever Emperor. He’s impossibly alluring, as only fiction can be. And in this fantasy world, she discovers she's not the heroine, but the villainess in the Emperor's tale.

A great meta on common tropes
Revisado: 12-23-24
Such a fun and engaging story. Great characters, and subversive plot. The story intentionally twists and turns away expectations, and the exploration of good and evil in fantasy felt like a beautiful homage to, as well as a harsh criticism of the genre.

Feels like reading someone I can’t relate to’s fever dream
Revisado: 12-22-23
What’s with needing to pee being used as a way to say she’s scared? Is that a thing that happens? It was so confusing that it put me out of the story.
I love this author normally, and would recommend reading the author’s work to anyone reading. I don’t dislike this one, but the pee thing is really silly feeling, and the fork thing makes no sense to me

While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Brendan Fraser is the only good part
Revisado: 12-06-23
Not only idiotic and poorly researched. Obviously incorrect or misunderstood science:
“Most physicists say there is no such thing [as free will]”
But it’s also blatantly discriminatory/racist against First Nations Peoples. Referring to the bit where Mennonite’s survived sans crime or problems fir 500 years, but all First Nations died out (implied that they are worse at surviving)
Also most of the narration is terrible, like the captain sounding hyped and amped talk an out doom, I can hear her smile, and it’s off putting. And what in the world isThe accent from the “British” astrophysicist?? Let alone the ?Russians?
Ugg I only have an hour left and it’s free to boot, and I just can’t.
Brendan Fraser us a gradar a expressive narrator, and he’s carrying this production.

I have Holly hope
Revisado: 09-09-23
I have Holly hope this book will get the credit it deserves. I enjoyed this one a lot, in fact it was a listen I didn’t stop until I was finished. For whatever reason all of the Holly books feel so aligned with my own experience that it’s moderately eerie, and the COVID life experience was no different. Having had my own life trajectory so altered by the virus, and fielding recommendations like “try crystals” come from—what feels like—every person I met during that time, this book followed a very real trajectory of personal horror of that tie. Combine that with a personal irrational fear of psychosis, Alzheimer’s, and prion disease; and you have a great horror novel.

Sad I can’t keep listening to this one
Revisado: 08-04-21
Probably one of King’s best novels yet. The story had a magic about it that made me feel like he was writing about my life in metaphor.
I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was probably too young to read his work, and have read everything he’s written. I don’t love everything, and how could I expect to? But this one hit me, and I’m not 100% sure why, but regardless it came to life as I read. It felt like it holds up a mirror to the reader and asks them to find truth value and honor in their own lives, and just maybe to write it down.
As my mom’s favorite author, she used to read Stephen king to me when I was an older kid. Editing out some parts too old for me, so I’ve been listening to his stories since I was 8, and this narrator captured some of the complexities I don’t think I’ve heard from other narrators. The narrator brought some of his own magic to the story.

This book made my heart smile.
So much honor was done for the various traditions and folklore touched upon. The depiction strength of the women in the story was honest to history and inspiring for modern day. What an absolute joy of a read/listen!

Why am I listening to sobbing? What’s going on? Ooooh it’s a graphic novel...
This is probably great with the graphics. Reading graphic novel frames does not an audio book make. I made it 10 minutes. I’m sure the graphic novel is great but this is a failed experiment

Wow ideas
Revisado: 06-07-18
It’s skipped around and lacked some continuity, but the character and world building was worth it. Story was so accelerated (I guess that’s the name sake) that it felt like being cognitively dragged behind the story’s advance. I’m left worn out, but not confused. Lots of cool concepts.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Such a good listen until the narrator comes to a female voice and started to sound more like he’s impersonating William Shatner...
there was a lot of great social commentary and representation.
