THE ENDING WILL SHOCK YOU
Revisado: 03-09-24
I love ghost stories. I love mysteries. And this book has plenty of both elements. I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys a supernatural twist with well-rounded and dynamic characters.
And the ending … wow… not what I expected, but very thought provoking.
Highly recommend it.

A good story. And a great romance. But a bit slow.
Revisado: 04-09-23
I really like this book. It was really fun. Thoughtful. Romantic. But it was a bit slow. For a premise like this, I think it leaned a little too heavily on relationships/romance. And that’s why I’m only giving it a three star rating. But, it’s worth a read, especially if you enjoy romance, and Sci-fi!

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Progressive Dogma with Strong Sexual Content
Revisado: 05-14-19
The production value of this book is fantastic. The actors do a wonderful. And the writing is intriguing in concept.
The main heroin is strong and motivated. I love good stories with interesting female protagonists. And I was excited to listen to this one.
Unfortunately, she does things and says things that no lady in the time period would do. She repeatedly goes and does things that are frankly stupid or needlessly dangerous, that even a man would hesitate to do. Yes, She has her reasons in one way or another. And those reasons maybe enough in a contemporary fiction but this a period piece drama where people, customs, and society were vastly different.
So in other words, in order to fit the strong feminist character cliche of our time, they wrote a character that is not likable, not historically accurate, and not believable.
There are repeated and overt references to gender inequality, race, and status to fit a dogmatic progressive narrative. Yes, injustice happened. But is this a jaded cultural politically correct commentary or a story?
Also, if you still decide to listen, please be aware there are very strong sexual situations and strong language to boot.

Creepy. Cool. And Oddly Deep.
Revisado: 11-14-17
I honestly haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a while. The main character is smart and stupid in the most relatable way and the action was riveting.
But be warned, this book is awesome but it is dark with witches and ghosts. I typically don’t like darker books but this one broke the mold.

Clever, Mature, and Thoughtful
Revisado: 10-16-17
This book is very unique. It questions the state of the human soul in a sci Fi environment. What makes you, you? Though this book is skillfully told, it has a ton of sexual themes which would have made it an R rated film easily. It is very well done, but beware.
