Historia
By day, Maeve Fly works at the happiest place in the world as every child’s favorite ice princess. By the neon night glow of the Sunset Strip, Maeve haunts the dive bars with a drink in one hand and a book in the other, imitating her misanthropic literary heroes. But when Gideon Green—her best friend’s brother—moves to town, he awakens something dangerous within her, and the world she knows suddenly shifts beneath her feet. Untethered, Maeve ditches her discontented act and tries on a new persona.

maybe I didn't get the point
Revisado: 08-10-24
I made it all the way through, but I don't know if I enjoyed it. I mostly just waited for some plot to develop, but it's just Dexter meets American Psycho but still being less than either of them. The main character is unlikeable, there's no conflict or development,

I did not like the narration
Revisado: 07-13-22
The book was great, but unfortunately the narrator delivers every single line with a sneering smugness that becomes unbearable after the first hour.

very disappointed
Revisado: 11-14-21
I am pretty furious that I just invested 13-14 hours into a book for such a flimsy resolution as "he believes in Jesus, so he's fireproof now." I should have quit after it was revealed what the creature was.

He’s making good on it.

Do it
Revisado: 09-09-21
I didn't know what to expect coming into this one. I love the author, and Theo is my boy, but Blackwood's plots have been slippin, and I didn't want her bringing him down. I also didn't want them to go full action-hero trope, and I was worried at first, since Cray apparently went true to his name and has been dropping bodies from the shadows on the reg in Burma like John Rambo with a doctorate. But honestly, let's talk about the highlight of this book: the chimp fight. You guys, they fight a pack of savage murderous chimps in a secret lab, and, AND, it's not the dumbest thing ever. It absolutely works. I was on-edge for shark-jumping, and this would have been the moment, but it works. The book I listened to before this was a 12-hour horror novel with nightmarishly grotesque visuals, but this monkey deathmatch scene was absolutely more tense and fear-inducing than that entire book. Take a shot at this book. Do it for yourself. Do it for Andrew. Do it for the chimps.

Historia
Odessa Hardwicke's life is derailed when she's forced to turn her gun on her partner, Walt Leppo, a decorated FBI agent who turns suddenly, inexplicably violent while apprehending a rampaging murderer. The shooting, justified by self-defense, shakes the young FBI agent to her core. Devastated, Odessa is placed on desk leave pending a full investigation. But what most troubles Odessa isn't the tragedy itself - it's the shadowy presence she thought she saw fleeing the deceased agent's body after his death.

I had high hopes
Revisado: 08-28-21
I really thought this was a safe choice, but it's just a generic mashup of common tropes. Also, it's not the author's fault, but I pictured the mysterious stranger as looking like Matt Berry and I couldn't take him seriously.

So disappointing
Revisado: 07-13-21
Even though the last book left me unsatisfied, I tried to give the series another shot. After the crazy introduction and plot setup, I was expecting a roller coaster of a story. It's like a coaster that builds and builds, and then you get off at a platform at the top and take the stairs down. NOTHING is explained. How do the predictions work? Why does any of this happen? Why did they move the town? Normally, I would give it a 3, but I know the author can do better. The Theo Cray series is great. These books are like he gives up 75% of the way through. You can do better. That goes for the reader and the author.

Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Wanted to like it
Revisado: 02-03-21
I thought that this would be a fun story about a team exploring a distant planet on a salvage mission. The book is about philosophy and the meaning of conciousness and corporate politics. Do not get it if you are looking for a fun read. I thought Nathan Fillion would save it, but he tends to trail off his voice at the end of sentences. It's almost like he runs out of air, so the ending of a lot of lines are almost under his breath. It's hard for people who have difficulty hearing.

Mays kills it!
Revisado: 08-26-20
I had been hesitant to start this one, as Rene's performance defined Pendergast's tone and mannerisms perfectly. I didn't believe anyone could fill his shoes, but Mays is absolutely worthy of the honor. The book was great as well, but the relief of AXL being faithfully represented was better.

Nonsensical stories and godawful narration
Revisado: 11-17-19
Firstly, this audiobook sounds like it was recorded in a portable toilet. HORRIBLE quality. The stories themsleves seem like they were runner's-up in a 6th grade short story contest. The narration is irritatingly nasally, and get ready for the worst southern accent by a British guy you've ever heard.
