Historia
Stop me if you’re heard this one: Veteran comic Chauncy and social-media star José are the very definition of “opposites attract”. But sparks, and jokes, fly after the two of them embark upon a beautiful romance for the ages...two vastly different ages. Starring Drew Droege and Gabe Gonzalez, The Comedians is a modern queer love story, told through individual stand-up acts. We hear the ups and downs of their journey—from falling hard to failing harder than a botched punchline—in this hilariously relatable play about love, loss, and, above all, "The Laugh".

Poignant Drama Unfolds on Stand-Up Comedy Stage

Unexpectedly lovely. Fantastic performers
Revisado: 11-16-22
I was skeptical about the format, but it really worked well. The stand up parts were often funny and always engaging, and the characters and their relationship were so compelling. Absolutely lovely.

Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.

Very cute, great narration
Revisado: 11-16-22
Very cute - not one of the author's best, but to be fair, her best is very very good. Manages to have a satisfying love story and interesting characters in a short amount of time, and the plot has just enough to it for the format. I enjoyed it.

This might be my favorite in this very lovely trilogy. Excellent narration on all three, and really enjoyable characters.

No story, no relationship, no characters
Revisado: 10-02-22
Rom coms are allowed to be silly. They're allowed to use tropes to fill in parts of the story. And novellas are allowed to use shortcuts. But this novella has nothing other than shortcuts and tropes. We don't know anything about the love interest or his personality, we barely know anything about the main character. And the writer doesn't have to develop a relationship between them, because they're rekindling a past relationship... no, wait, they're rekindling a past where one of them had a crush from afar and then they made out once and never actually had even a short conversation. But apparently that was enough for them to be each other's person and love each other a decade later, no actual story or connection needed. This was maybe the laziest writing I've ever come across.

Historia
The Borderlands aren't like anywhere else. Don't try to smuggle a phone or any other piece of technology over the wall that marks the Border - unless you enjoy a fireworks display in your backpack. (Ballpoint pens are okay.) There are elves, harpies, and - best of all as far as Elliot is concerned - mermaids. Elliot? Who's Elliot? Elliot is 13 years old. He's smart and just a tiny bit obnoxious. Sometimes more than a tiny bit. When his class goes on a field trip and he can see a wall that no one else can see, he is given the chance to go to school in the Borderlands.

Elliot is an interesting pov character and reliably unreliable (and fun) guide. There's real creativity in the world drawn, and real insight in the various and changing personalities and relationships.

Historia
Lady Madeline Matthews would rather shame herself than sacrifice her freedom – which is why, to avoid a marriage to an aging, lecherous lord, she seeks out the company of Logan Scott. A torrid affair with the notorious womanizer would surely condemn her in the eyes of good society.Though a legend in the bedchamber, Logan is, in truth, an intensely private man tormented by past betrayals. Now a forward little minx is disrupting his life with her vibrant charm and unspoiled beauty, a high-spirited enchantress completely at sea in London’s sophisticated whirl.

Hero rapes heroine. Very romantic.
Revisado: 02-13-16
What would have made Because You're Mine better?
If the hero didn't rape the heroine. If the hero didn't tell the heroine, in complete seriousness, that he was going to marry her against her will, 'own her body and soul', that he would have sex with her whenever he wanted and that she wouldn't enjoy it as much as she did the first (consentual) time, that he despised her and would make sure she wouldn't enjoy the marriage, that he would absolutely control her and their child. But they're in love, so it's romantic.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Nothing from this writer. She came highly recommended, but this was absolutely enough to put her on my Do Not Read list.
What character would you cut from Because You're Mine?
The hero. I'd gladly read about the heroine's adventures in the theater world. a
Any additional comments?
I'd have said the 90s weren't long enough ago for this. Apparently I'd have been wrong.
