I wanted to love this book, but I did like it

to be honest I bought this for the voice acting
Revisado: 05-11-20
the story is laugh out loud funny frequently. it's hard to decide if it's the story or the superb voice acting of Nick Podehl. if, like me you are a student of sarcasm and other forms of wry humor you may also enjoy this. it does become a bit predictable and the ending is pure romance but I think I'd listen more that once.

title should have been, ...
Revisado: 11-05-17
I felt that this was presented from a british ethnocentric viewpoint. It's really the Greek, Roman and medieval British world's with a brief sojourn down the Nile, and a passing reference to Persian civilization. Nothing of the Eastern or African ancient civilizations. Not entirely surprising I suppose given the presenter is a professor of classics.
If the former are what you're interested in then this course is comprehensive.

The story is so much better than the narration
Revisado: 04-30-13
I was intrigued by the reviews. I wanted to like this reading but only a few minutes in I can't listen to the narrator anymore. It's just awful, monotone dreck. I found the kindle version is only a buck. Complete waste of my credit. Read it yourself, you'll do a better job.

Gritty underbelly of fantasy
Revisado: 03-20-13
If Dashiell Hammett wrote fantasy it would be like this. Some great oneliners by the protagonist. While I could see the end coming it was a satisfying conclusion.

like chips, you can't consume just one
Revisado: 08-20-12
This should probably be categorized as young adult. The story is OK, the narration is good. The different character's voices are well distinguished. This is book 2 of three and as such is best consumed as part of the series. I enjoyed it, a light romp mostly but Sonea's foil is the kind of villiian you grow to loathe.

It's the falsetto
Revisado: 02-13-11
Mr Snyder has a pleasant voice when speaking for male characters but the falsetto he uses for the female character's parts is jarring and rather hoakey. It's interesting that when Allyson Johnson does male voices for the HH series male characters it's not so weird sounding. The Book is awesome but this audio version is hard to listen to.
