Historia
First came the man: a young wanderer in a fatigue coat and long hair. Then came the legend, as John Rambo sprang from the pages of FIRST BLOOD to take his place in the American cultural landscape. This remarkable novel pits a young Vietnam veteran against a small-town cop who doesn't know whom he's dealing with - or how far Rambo will take him into a life-and-death struggle through the woods, hills, and caves of rural Kentucky.

Early look at PTSD
Revisado: 07-17-20
Everyone has seen the Stallone franchise, but they don't know Rambo until they read where his story originated! Wonderfully written as a prose of thought between Rambo and Teasle, up until the climatic, heart-breaking end. This is an early attempt to understand what we now know as PTSD, and what the atrocities of war can do to the psyche of a human soul. Brutal, sometimes funny, but overall very well-written and wonderfully narrated! A must read for any military or historical fiction fan!

Drawing on an unprecedented range and variety of original research, Hitler's Empire sheds new light on how the Nazis designed, maintained, and lost their European dominion - and offers a chilling vision of what the world would have become had they won the war. Mark Mazower forces us to set aside timeworn opinions of the Third Reich, and instead shows how the party drew inspiration for its imperial expansion from America and Great Britain.

WWII geeks will enjoy it
Revisado: 03-14-20
Wow. A lot of info to soak up and it was tedious at times but for a WWII-obssessed freak like me, it was enthralling. We all know Hitler, his hate, his delusions of grandeur...and how Nazi Germany came to reflect him as a person. This book touched on him only in association with all the moving parts of his inner circle, the SS, and German psyche, culture, and history in the eyes of those who lived and died under the Third Reich.

Historia
The West and Islam - the sword and scimitar - have clashed since the 17th century, when, according to Muslim tradition, the Roman emperor rejected Prophet Muhammad's order to abandon Christianity and convert to Islam, unleashing a centuries-long jihad on Christendom. Sword and Scimitar chronicles the decisive battles that arose from this ages-old Islamic jihad, beginning with the first major Islamic attack on Christian land in 636.

Must read for ALL Westerners!
Revisado: 06-26-19
A terrifying but terrifyingly accurate account of the very real animosity Islam possess of us Westerners, particularly Christians. Want to be enlightened about what is really going on, read Sword and Scimitar!

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Old habits die hard
Revisado: 01-01-19
The Last Manhunt is probably my favorite western tale written. Taking place at the end of the frontier near the dawn of the 20th century, this story is expertly narrated by Tom Stechschulte. Ransom March is a has-been, and he knows it. In his 50s, his glory days are well behind him, and even though dime novels have made him out to be a hero that never existed, he agrees to be interviewed by a young newspaper journalist and stalwart follower of those extraordinary tales of "Ransom March: Prince of the Plains." This journalist is sorely disappointed to learn that Rance is not the gallant gunfighter in his boyhood storybooks. But he also learns that Ransom March was exactly the man needed to tame the frontier, a man as coldblooded and gun handy as the outlaws he pursued. Perfectly written with a touch of psychosis in the villain known as the Gravedigger, this story is hilarious when appropriate, brutal when needed, and paints a picture of the west as it was: violent, unforgiving, and hard to kill.

Incredible story of human endurance
Revisado: 01-01-19
This dark, gruesome tale is probably one of my favorite westerns ever written, and I've read most every western written. This story is about human endurance, perseverance, and explores the depths of a man's soul even as he is dying. Marshal Asher Thrall is a good man, dealt a horrible hand by fate. An enemy puts a bullet in his chest but it doesn't kill him. It brings out a desire to do good with the time he has left, though to onlookers it may seem like cold-blooded justice. Funny, cynical, and existential, this tale is set against the lawless height of the frontier, a time as wild and unforgiving as the men who lived there. Amazing story, and a must read for any western-lover. George Guidall is one helluva narrator, capturing Ash's raw emotion and grit as he fights to stay alive to rid the world of bad men.

Historia
Red is a brilliantly told, captivating history of red hair throughout the ages. An audiobook that breaks new ground, dispels myths, and reinforces the special nature of being a redhead, with a look at multiple disciplines, including science, religion, politics, feminism and sexuality, literature, and art. With an obsessive fascination that is as contagious as it is compelling, author Jacky Colliss Harvey (herself a redhead) begins her exploration of red hair in prehistory and traces the redhead gene as it made its way out of Africa with the early human diaspora.

Beautifully read and very insightful
Revisado: 04-11-18
Insightful, daring, and beautifully read, Red looks at the history, science, and mysticism of us gingers in a way not seen before. Full of humor, heart, and with sources both in biology and popular culture, the novel delves into the most radiant hair color and the author herself gives the spoken words just enough personality to keep you hooked without being boorish. Highly recommended for any scholar, student...or fellow redhead curious about our origins and what makes our locks so unique.
