Historia
Mische lost everything when she was forcibly Turned into a vampire—her home, her humanity, and most devastating of all, the love of the sun god to whom she had devoted her life. Now, sentenced to death for murdering the vampire prince who turned her, redemption feels impossible. But when Mische is saved by Asar, the bastard prince of the House of Shadow with a past as brutal as his scars, she's forced into a mission worse than execution: a journey to the underworld to resurrect the god of death himself.

Outstanding. Broadbent at her best! Mische’s and Asar’s are so flawed, and have made deeply relatable mistakes. The character development in this book demonstrates and writer ascending in her craft. Section 1 is good; sections 2 and 3 are very good; and sections 4 through 7 to the end are so satisfying, I can almost forgive Broadbent for making me wait for the next book in this duet. Themes of betrayal and redemption are well wrought because Broadbent does not use one to replace the other, but rather demonstrates how both can exist in a space where the betrayer who is also the redeemed can move forward. I highly recommend reading.
