How an extreme extrovert marketer sees the world
Revisado: 06-15-24
Tons of name dropping. Totally out of touch with the average person. "I know the CEO of Sony but he didn't return my email so I met up with this other CEO I know who does business with Sony... Also, always take first class flights so you can take a chance on talking to an important person over the first class meal."

Generic circular information
Revisado: 02-13-24
Sounds like a broken record of finance focused fortune cookie level advice... if you don't have time you need to make time, if you don't have money figure out where you can save money, do your 10% entrepreneurial work during your regular work hours but prioritize your job so you don't get fired... Just spend the time you would have used listening to this book to move forward with an idea.

Good Strategy/Bad Strategy

Historia
Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to - and approach for - overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy”.

Mostly "look how right I was"
Revisado: 08-29-23
Also, "look at everybody else's mistakes". Very little practical, useful info. To write a good strategy should be 1. Diagnosis (problem statement), 2. Policies (choose/trade this for that), 3. Actions you'll take to get there. There, I just saved you a few hours.

Dolli had a very hands-off approach to ruling her once booming village. She preferred to use her alchemical skills to brew a nice cup of tea and keep whiny petitioners off her lawn with Wendigo repellant. But she pays the price for her apathy when her neglected village transforms into a Dungeon, making it fair game for any Hero with a lust for loot.

A product of the latest technologies, Barliona is a virtual world brimming with fun and entertainment. The government has become the guarantor for the in-game currency, allowing its free circulation. As a result the population floods Barliona in pursuit of easy money. It doesn't take long for the game developers to discover a source of free labor: real-world prison convicts. While their bodies are locked in special auto-maintenance virtual capsules, the prisoners' minds are released into Barliona's virtual mines.

Everything interesting from book 1 is gone
Revisado: 05-29-23
Everything interesting from the first book is undone - doesn't use the skills he's learned other than to acknowledge them and conveniently get out of a curve the writer painted himself into, debuffs from being a criminal that would have added drama and required intelligent thinking from the main character to overcome are wiped away without reason, character is overly lucky in finding quests, items, people and creatures that teams of higher level players have actively searched for. Juvenile writing. Minor to moderate misogynistic tone throughout and stolen kiss instead of writing a good romantic arc. Does nothing to expand the story arc from outside the game either, why was he set up for the crime, who was the girl that set him up, for what purpose, and then why give him special treatment? Story was hard to follow at times and convoluted by the end instead of just having a few interesting twists. Would have been much better if the story, skills, quests, and characters were fewer in number but more thought out.

The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Becoming a permanent addition to a game world, it doesn't take long to learn that people with his abilities are actively hunted. In fact, if the wrong people gained knowledge of what he was capable of, assassins would appear in droves.

Overall good, entertaining story. Final few chapters have nothing to do with the rest of the book. Those are more of a side story.

Every parent of a teenage boy knows there are certain conversations they must have with their son, but they often put them off - or worse, don't have them at all - because they simply don't know where to start. Written by Dr. Tim Hawkes, one of Australia's top educators, Ten Conversations You Must Have with Your Son offers a practical, accessible, and invaluable way to get these discussions started. Dr. Hawkes provides parents with the essential information they need to negotiate their way through what can often be very difficult territory.

Narration sub-par. Wild claims, false statements.
Revisado: 10-11-22
It's an interesting listen and I was able to take 1 or 2 takeaways that I might use. He does say upfront that he's not an expert. Well that's definitely true. When the content got to video games, he says that violent games cause violence in children. There have been multiple studies done on this which have proven that there is no correlation between video game violence and real world violence. I can't help but wonder what other debunked or preposterous things the author claims as fact. Also, the reader speaks with all the charm of a weevil crawling in your ear and it's all I can do to keep from turning it off not to have to hear him talk.
Edit: Even worse than I originally thought. As I continued listening there were many incorrect statements and wild claims. I finally had enough when the author claimed the Challenger explosion was from a lack of sleep rather than the faulty O-Rings. The fault was actually well known but ignored despite refusals to sign off due to safety concerns.

What if life as we know it was just a game? What if instead of traditional schools, children learned by participating in a virtual reality simulation, one that allowed them to experience "life" from birth to death - multiple times? What if one player, on his final play, could change the world forever?

I listened through about half the book. It was all talk about a story that could be great but that it never actually got to telling. Everything just seemed like it was setting something else up that never came. After half the book I just wasn't willing to listen to any more time wasting exposition.
