Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Is this how artsy people behave?
Revisado: 03-17-25
This is just a really weird story with way too many strange details and I found it unbelievable that anyone truly acts this way.

Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

Eye rolls galore
Revisado: 09-05-22
I found it very hard to believe that a woman who has known this teenager for two years, during which that teen has only ever been sullen and hateful to her, would go on such an epic crusade to “do the right thing” for her (and ends up doing something that I doubt anyone else would have said was the right thing).
She behaved like a guilty person right from the outset which is not how anyone who had no idea would have behaved. Yet also dumb. Taking off and leaving $600,000+ in your house when you KNOW a search warrant is coming?
Mildly entertaining but I really had to suspend disbelief and could not stop myself from rolling my eyes at all 1000 references to “protecting her”.

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Meh
Revisado: 01-19-19
The story was engaging enough that I persisted in listening despite the excessive and irritating use of similes. However the “payoff” wasn’t worth it. The twist was far fetched and listening to her try to talk her way out of getting killed by a psychopath by playing to his emotions was laughable.

Pretty good

I liked the story; a little twist but nothing you couldn’t see coming. A bit of an unsatisfying ending but overall it was good. Kept me interested enough to keep going.

Too general, not helpful
Revisado: 02-18-18
While quick and cheap, this was useless. It spoke in such broad generalities so as to apply to any person or family with any dysfunction. The 24 tips were stated at the end, briefly, and with no examples given. Also the narrator actually said “exasturbate” like this is a word.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-18-18
I kept expecting the story to get good and it never did. It just dragged on and on and the “revelation” was treated as some epic betrayal by the characters when in fact it was a small footnote in their remote history.
Also does anyone really pronounce “Isla” as “Ees-la”??!!! So annoying.

Unbelievable
Revisado: 02-07-18
This story started out great but just gets more and more convoluted and unbelievable as it goes. The conspiracy story rests on the premise that there are so many people who love snuff porn that they can take over entire organizations to fake deaths and protect the business. It’s ridiculous by the end.

worth it
Revisado: 09-06-17
This was so hard to listen to at first because it seems impossible that something like this could really occur yet so scary that maybe it actually could. I only continued to listen because I was hoping it would end well, but given the description of Jack and his behaviour I doubted it until the very last pages.

Really struggled with this one. I kept thinking the mystery was going to be so much more shocking than it was. And every single time she narrated Drew's voice I just wanted to give up the whole thing.
