Historia
Renée Ballard is working the night beat again and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours only to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin. Ballard kicks him out but then checks into the case herself, and it brings a deep tug of empathy and anger. Bosch is investigating the death of 15-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally murdered and her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now, Ballard joins forces with Bosch.

Conneley keeps getting better and better
Revisado: 01-11-19
As a long time fan of Michael Connelly, I have read all of his fiction. I love the Bosch series, both the books and the TV version. I loved René Ballard when she was first introduced in the last book. I remember wishing that she and Bosch could work together. What a satisfying partnership! I just wish I had another few books to dive into right now.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

The start of another great series
Revisado: 10-18-17
I have loved the Harry Bosch series and the Mickey Haller series and the way they take place in the same universe. I'm grateful to be introduced to a new young detective who shares the values, integrity and Grit of Connolly's other compelling characters. I look forward to many more Renée Ballard mysteries.

Having loved these characters for years, and trying to read all of his books in order, I so appreciate the character development, new and old characters, and masterful plotting that mark any Michael Connelly book. This is an especially satisfying example.

I am such a fan of Liz Gilbert. This book is so inspiring and delightful. I think I will try to listen to it over and over, a few minutes every day or every few days, to keep myself encouraged and reminded of how to nurture my own creativity, without taking myself or any single thing about it too seriously.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

I will read anything Laura Hillenbrand writes. Amazingly thorough research, compelling prose, amazing grasp of details. Very moving and inspiring true story. Edward Herrmann feels like a perfect narrator for this, as well. He has the gravitas and the generational chops to do it. I highly recommend this version of the book.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Beautiful, healing story
Revisado: 06-30-16
I experienced this book as a suitable sequel to Me Before You. It is best to read them in order, although she does eventually provide backstory/reminders about the events in the first book. The novel is eventful and poignant, warm, funny and emotionally wise. The pair of books are very enjoyable and supportive/helpful for readers willing to explore issues of love and loss. I felt like I was connecting with a friend who had experienced a similar heart journey to my own. I thought the Performer did a fantastic job with different character voices and dialects, and the writing is often laugh out loud funny.

Evanovich and Goldberg work their magic again; part hard-boiled detective fiction, part romantic comedy, part caper film, Kate and Nick and their crew are back. Like the Heist, the Chase provides delightfully memorable and satisfying dialogue, characters, and plot developments. I wish this series would never end.
