This is a standard barer for epic storytelling. It is effectively a poem, who's stanzas will leave you laughing, crying, furious, and nostalgic

Tomorrow's terror today
Revisado: 09-20-24
The authenticity in this series makes it hard to tell where the author's imagination takes over from his memory.
If I were to gripe, there's a scene or two that make me squirm, and that is not a thing I have ever said about a book.
this series has introduced James Reese. The newest entrant into the pantheon of "great characters" such as Matt Helm, Jack Ryan, and James Bond.

Historia
For Detective Sam Porter, the words "Father, forgive me" conjure memories long forgotten; a past intentionally buried. For Anson Bishop, these three words connect a childhood to the present as he unleashes a truth concealed for decades. Found written on cardboard near each body, these words link multiple victims to a single killer - discovered within minutes of each other in both Chicago and South Carolina - clearly connected yet separated by impossible miles.

At first I was thoroughly confused, then I thought I saw, then I was more confused, then I was almost frustrated, then I WAS frustrated, then I realized the I now have a new favorite trilogy.
it's a rollercoaster. A gruesome, psychedelic, brutal rollercoaster of epic proportion equally well read and written.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

better than before
Revisado: 08-06-24
This one of my first long books. I was hesitant about an expansion of a book I remember being so thick it was difficult to keep open
I'm glad I chanced it. the extra 400 pages don't seem extra. It is more of the same.
Which is to say it is better than the great story it already was.
good reading as well!

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

expertly written and frighteningly plausible
Revisado: 03-14-24
What makes the book so good is the believability. Not only is it a masterclass thriller; a story full of drama, friendship, nuance, and intrigue. It's also not written by a desk jockey that thinks a suppressor is a silencer, knows it's a magazine not a clip, and by a guy that has obviously seen death, felt the loss of team members, witnessed political corruption.
He has taken that sorrow and pain and betrayal and turned it into a work of art
The art of revenge, death, and retribution
Or something like that.

Historia
They called him unfit to rule - a lowborn, callow boy, Uther's bastard. But his coming had been foretold in the songs of the bard Taliesin. He had learned powerful secrets at the knee of the mystical sage Merlin. He was Arthur Pendragon of the Island of the Mighty, who would rise to legendary greatness in a Britain torn by violence, greed, and war, ushering in a glorious reign of peace and prosperity - and who would fall at the treacherous hands of the one he loved more than life.

Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

Historia
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

Three hundred thirty-three fatalities and no survivors. So begins Pulitzer Prize finalist Jean Heller’s chilling hard-boiled saga, as a flight crashes on takeoff when one of its engines explodes in midair. After that, it’s a toss-up—you may or may not be able to catch your breath as the thriller loops and careens to a twisty climax.
