Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

performance and production
Revisado: 03-11-25
The original work of literature is a stand out drama taking place during the migration of the dust bowl Oklahoma to Central California. Generations later families still travel back and forth to see relatives.
The actor gives each character a unique voice to help the listener understand who's saying what at any given time. the production is high quality with harmonica interludes between chapters.

Wow, it's like Neo taking the pill
Revisado: 09-26-24
Noam talks about events that I didn't know happened that are of such scale they are hard to comprehend. I can appreciate that it's not Noam's monotone delivery but since it was an interview transcription it would have been better to have 2 distinct voices as the back and forth gets a little irritating announcing each by initials before each Inquiry, comment or exchange.

Historia
The History of Starved Rock provides a wonderful overview of the famous site in Utica, Illinois, from when European explorers first viewed the bluff in 1673 through to 1911, when Starved Rock became the centerpiece of Illinois' second state park. Mark Walczynski pulls together stories and insights from the language, geology, geography, anthropology, archaeology, biology, and agriculture of the park to provide listeners with an understanding of both the human and natural history of Starved Rock, and to put it into context with the larger history of the American Midwest.

Illinois History
Revisado: 06-18-24
I am a long term resident of Illinois but the History of Illinois was sort of blank to me. I was taught National History in school mostly. I knew the French were here first and desired to posses and secure the waterways of North America. This book covers not only Starved Rock but tribal Native American, French and English relations. This book opened my eyes as to how long corn and other agriculture has been produced in Illinois. I plan to reread or listen to this book a few times because there is so much to consider. Thank you for taking the time to write this book.

I was interested in finding out details of Jesse James' life and possible family history so was not disappointed.
No way could a person's Death be faked today cameras are everywhere. Back then sure, the funeral photos are amazing because so many people stood still at the same time for it to turn out so clearly. The accompanied PDF helped a lot. The narrator did a great job of telling the story without being a distraction.

Historia
In 1934, a pair of teenagers from Baltimore by the names of Theodore Jones and Henry Grob embarked on what they thought would be another lazy summer afternoon. They popped in at the soda shop and idly browsed through the aisles of few local mom-and-pop stores, but when they could not kill their boredom, they decided to return to Grob's place for an impromptu treasure hunt. Clunky metal detectors in hand, they roamed around the backyard, discovering and delighting in odd metal knickknacks along the way. What started out as just another slow-moving summer's day turned out to be anything but when one of the detectors began to go off.

No treasure hunt

Reading the teaser I thought there would be a successful treasure hunt involved.
It is a story about KGC founder George WL Bickley. He might have single handedly both spurred and thwarted Southern Cessation by usurping another organization.

Interesting biography of a man dedicated to public service in the FBI. He seems to be in love with the pursuit of justice via FBI. His descriptions of his encounters with 3 different POTUS' are entertaining.
The narration kept my attention very well but not a distraction.
His story is one of standing up for blind lady justice.

Two men having different conversations
Revisado: 11-30-22
I liked this book because it live conversation. Trump actually appears less ominous. I would suggest reading/listening to Scott Adams "Win Bigly" suggested by Son-in-Law to explain DT because it seems like Bob is trying to interview Donald in a formatted way but Donald is trying to sell Bob things in a hypnotic fashion so it turns into very dry comedy.

Historia
In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.

Fun listen about the gun issue. Written as a response to his earlier book,"Rage." I am not sure that Australian Gun laws are the answer but seeing a semi-automatic gun as more than a toy is unrealistic.
The reader is compelling too.
