Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant Audiolibro Por Anne Tyler arte de portada

Listen to it More Than Once

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-13-11

The first time I listened to this book, I really didn't like it. I thought the story was weak but the characters were interesting. The second time I listened, I discovered that the characters are the story and I actually found the book quite enjoyable. Anne Tyler is a great storyteller. I enjoy her folksy and flawed characters. I do wish there would have been more of a "story" but its still a good book that I'll keep in my permanent collection.

Juicy Its Not

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-13-11

Since I listened to this interesting book, I've read several reviews that talk about what a juicy tell-all it is. It is not. Its a well-written and interesting story of someone who has been through Hollywood's trenches and emerged as a pretty normal guy. I loved hearing about his early friendships and found stories about movie-making to be really interesting. I would recommend this book. Its an easy and enjoyable listen.

Loved It!

I needed an easy listen and this hit the spot. Its funny, warm, smart, enjoyable. I wasn't aware of Tina Fey or her work before I read this; I'm not much of a TV person, but I loved it. I've listened to it a couple of times now and it makes me smile.

I Love Amy Tan

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-02-11

I couldn't wait to start listening to this book. I am a huge Amy Tan fan. It was a good book but I didn't like it as much as her other novels. I found the characters to be a little boring and I didn't really understand the psychic interpretation, but its worth a credit. I recommend this book.

Worth a First and Second Listen

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-02-11

This book is not charming; its tragic. The narration is good, with the exception of Lavinia whose accent goes from strong to non-existent throughout the story. The story is well-crafted though and interesting from a historical standpoint. I would recommend this book, although it isn't an easy listen.

This is a masterpiece!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-02-11

I have read and listened to this masterful book more times than I can count. I disagree with the criticism of the narrator. I think she is superb! This would have been better if read by multiple talents as "The Help" was, but I thought that the narrator did an admirable job.

This book has so many layers and as a lay missionary, I can so relate to the characters and their struggles-- especially when it comes to the daughters of Nathan Price.

This book makes my lifetime top ten. In fact, it ties for number one!

Interesting but Not THAT Interesting

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-20-10

This book reads a little like a made for TV movie screen play. In fact, I think I saw a movie or read something else with a similar plot. But I did find the story compelling and the characters interesting. Its light reading--- one of those books you "wait on" until the end and then its over. I actually listened to it twice and found I liked it the second time more than I did the first.

I wanted to love this book

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-20-10

I had been told to read this book by a couple of people. As someone who has spent a lot of time in the mission field, I expected to find it very interesting. I tried three or four times, but never got past the first two hours. It literally put me to sleep. I'll try again because I just can't stand wasting the credit on a book I haven't read.

I love this book!

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-21-10

I loved the book and also the readers. Because I married in to an Asian American family, I always enjoy the insight into the culture.

It is a little sad, and the back story should be the main story, but still it makes my lifetime top 20.
