Historia
The story begins when two poets meet. Gabriel Syme is a poet of law. Lucian Gregory is a poetic anarchist. As the poets protest their respective philosophies, they strike a challenge. In the ruckus that ensues, the Central European Council of Anarchists elects Syme to the post of Thursday, one of their seven chief council positions. Undercover. On the run, Syme meets with Sunday, the head of the council, a man so outrageously mysterious that his antics confound both the law-abiding and the anarchist.

Symbolism was over my head.
Revisado: 04-22-20
Exciting story, but the 2nd half got gradually more and more symbolic and I needed some foot notes to keep up. Mr. Chesterton was smarter than I am.

All fluff, no story.
Revisado: 10-09-16
The entire story is that an armadillo digs up the garden and Hank gets blamed. You can tell all that from the title and description. It's not funny, very predictable and 3/4 of the book is Hank trying to build up suspense using long and boring monolog. There is almost no action in this book. Maybe it would be good if other Hank books had not built up my expectations.

Excellent Book!
Revisado: 10-09-16
The humor in this book has few laugh out loud moments, but keeps a constant smile on the face. I don't worry that any of the subjects will be unacceptable for my children to over hear. The only complaint is with Martin Jarvis' American accent. He does tolerably well for an English narrator, but it is still a little irritating.

Some funny parts, but too scary for my young kids
Revisado: 05-03-16
Loper has rented an old abandoned ranch for winter feeding and Hank gets stuck there with a crazy cat that has also been stuck there for 2 years. Most of the book is about the interaction between Hank and the crazy cat. There is very little Drover, Slim, or other major characters. It was medium to medium-low on the Hank funny list and the crazy cat has a lot of scenes with intense music and her intense crazy voice that actually creeped my 5 year old and 8 year old out. They didn't have nightmares or anything, but they didn't enjoy the book and asked me to stop playing (a rare occurrence for Hank the Cowdog). The series is great, but this book is not. If you want a Cat story, try The Twisted Kitty, which is a Hank classic.

Great start with under-developed ending.
Revisado: 06-18-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book gets you hooked in the first half as you imagine all sorts of delicious directions of possible development. Sadly, the the second half leaves you wishing the first half wasn't so good... so you don't feel like you need to finish it. The ending is so obvious that you really don't need to read it, because your imagination will probably be better anyways. Also, the strong Christian symbolism is muddled by the addition of strong Buddhist mysticism in the second half. It would have been better to stick to one or the other, especially since pure Buddhism is not accurately represented by the theology/mysticism portrayed in this book and trying to couple it with Christianity seems to represent a misunderstanding of the end goal of both religions.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The first half of this book promises an epic adventure with wit and wisdom. Unfortunately you don't realize that you reached the climax until it's over as the ending is something you knew would happen after the first chapter.
What about David Thorn’s performance did you like?
David Thorn's performance is excellent, but not miraculous. Sometimes the voices of the Rat and Marco are easily confused as Marco's whisper sounds just like the Rat's talking (The Rat is a boy, not a furry rodent - no talking animals).
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I hope this book is never made into a movie because the potential for the over-eager movie industry to make it worse is too great. They would remove the innocence, which is the main redeeming quality, and replace it with bickering and whiny drama. The positive addition of some good action scenes would not be enough to compensate.
Any additional comments?
Don't get this book for your kids as it will only confuse them. I encourage a listen out of curiosity, but anyone who wishes to save a precious credit for something awesome should turn somewhere else. If you like this author, try The Little Princess or The Secret Garden.

Historia
In 1885, while The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was becoming one of the best-selling American classics of modern times, Mark Twain began this sequel in which Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and Jim head west on the trail of two white girls kidnapped by Sioux warriors. Fifteen thousand words into the work, Twain stopped in the middle of a sentence, never to go back. The unfinished story sat on dusty shelves for more than a hundred years until author Lee Nelson decided to finish it.

Obviously not written by Samuel Clemens
Revisado: 08-17-11
The first two hours sound like a rough draft of something Mark Twain wrote and shortly afterwards the quality of writing takes a plunge. Tom Sawyer becomes a coward when the graphic description of Indians torturing a man begins and Huck Finn watches the women undress and bathe. This is not for fit for children or Mark Twain fans. Save a credit or some cash and skip this one.

Revisado: 01-26-11
This book was free to members and since we are such big fans of Sherlock Holmes, we downloaded it. After downloading so many excellent books from Audible, this served as a good reminder of what a mediocre book is like. The plot was almost on the brink of being a little bit creative, and the execution was flawlessly lacking logic and reason. Sherlock Holmes, in this book, is to the original what an ice cube is to a glacier. I encourage everyone to listen to this book and therefore brighten the rest of their life without it.

Average Book, Average Narration
Revisado: 07-26-10
Arthur Conan Doyle does not display his excellent talents in this book as he does in the Sherlock Holmes series. The book has very little plot; the majority of the content being about the eccentric ways of Napoleon Bonaparte. The story is interesting, but leaves you saying "was that it? Nothing More?" Gabriel Woolf has excellent French pronunciation and his narration is good, but not something that will stand out in a crowd. For excellent Doyle and excellent narration I highly recommend "The Complete Stories Of Sherlock Holmes Vol 1 & 2"

Good Book, Good Narration
Revisado: 07-17-10
I was unsure about this book when I first purchased it. I had never read this book, but as a kid I saw the 1959 film version with Pat Boone and James Mason. I'm glad to say that Jules Verne has a genius that was not captured in that film. The characters are very interesting and the intelligence displayed by them can only be written by a brilliant author. The story is very entertaining and filled with the science of the time that doesn't take long boring excursions into monologue such as in Moby Dick. This is excellent text is really brought out in the 5 star narration by Gerard Green who, thankfully, seems to have never seen the 1959 film. This is a great addition to any ones library and gets an A+ for family friendliness, good writing, and good reading.
