Historia
The world changed dramatically as the Berlin Wall fell and protest turned to massacre in Tiananmen Square. Now, with deft analysis and a wealth of newly declassified archival sources, historian Kristina Spohr offers a bold and novel interpretation of the revolutionary upheaval of 1989 and, how in its aftermath, a new world order was forged without major conflict. The Post-Wall world, Spohr argues, was brought about in significant measure through the determined diplomacy of a small cohort of international leaders.

Detailed Account of a TumultuousTime
Revisado: 03-13-24
I really enjoyed the book, particularly appreciating the detail that the author has shared. If you're interested in this time period, I'd recommend it. However, I didn't think the use of accents by the narrator was necessary at all. It's a history book; I don't think there's need for protagonists to have accents. And why only accents for the Americans and the British and none for German, Chinese, French, etc.? If that doesn't annoy you, then making your way through almost 24 hours of narration will be easier.

Historia
The appearance of a hastily constructed barbed wire entanglement through the heart of Berlin during the night of 12-13 August 1961 was both dramatic and unexpected. Within days, it had started to metamorphose into a structure that would come to symbolise the brutal insanity of the Cold War: the Berlin Wall. A city of almost four million was cut ruthlessly in two, unleashing a potentially catastrophic East-West crisis and plunging the entire world for the first time into the fear of imminent missile-borne apocalypse.

Fascinating Content but Terrible Accents
Revisado: 02-17-23
I found the content of the book to be so interesting. I find this period of history to be so captivating and this book helped contribute to me learning more about the period. However, the narrator's accents were unnecessary and were poor caricatures that severely detracted from enjoying the book. In retrospect, reading the hard copy would have been a better option.

Historia
The compelling, inspiring (often comic) coming-of-age story of Trevor Noah, set during the twilight of apartheid and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed. One of the comedy world's brightest new voices, Trevor Noah is a light-footed but sharp-minded observer of the absurdities of politics, race and identity, sharing jokes and insights drawn from the wealth of experience acquired in his relatively young life.

A heartfelt story of Noah's youth
Revisado: 12-31-16
What made the experience of listening to Born a Crime the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed Noah's honest, sometimes amusing, sometimes tragic, stories of his youth. Knowing his success today, it was interesting to learn of his family, their history and how they have clearly influenced him today. Narrated by Noah himself, made it even more authentic.
Which scene was your favorite?
Trevor as a little boy, deciding that he wasn't going to use the outhouse anymore! :-)
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
