Historia
Every expectant parent will tell you that they don't want a perfect baby, just a healthy one. Charlotte and Sean O'Keefe would have asked for a healthy baby, too, if they'd been given the choice. Instead their lives are made up of sleepless nights, mounting bills, the pitying stares of "luckier" parents, and, maybe worst of all, the what-ifs.

I liked the family dynamics. I disliked the end. I felt the ending fell flat.

Historia
A thousand years have passed since a dragon has been seen in the world. Science and technology have replaced magic, which has dwindled until it has become little more than an element of myth and legend. There are those who still have dragon blood flowing through their veins, distant descendants of the mighty creatures of old. These rare humans have the power to cast magic, the power to heal, and the power to craft alchemical weapons capable of starting wars...or ending them.

Where’s the Dragon? This is a fun and entertaining story, and I’m not sorry I read it. I just expected an actual dragon.

A good book for some light reading and entertainment. A new perspective on what it’s like to be an immigrant from a non American viewpoint.

Meh
Revisado: 12-24-19
To me, if you’re going to write a novel of historical fiction set in Auschwitz, you better make me cry. You’re tossing your hat in the ring with the greats - Leon Uris, Kristen Hannah, Anthony Doer, Marcus Zusak. I shed not one tear. It entertained me and I did finish it, but the characters were two dimensional. I was not changed by this story.

Historia
Fleeing assailants through alleyways in Denver late one night, Thomas Hunter narrowly escapes to the roof of an industrial building. Then a silent bullet from the night clips his head and his world goes black. When he awakes, he finds himself in an entirely different reality, a green forest that seems more real than where he was. Every time he tries to sleep, he wakes up in the other world, and soon he truly no longer knows which reality is real.

Thinly Disguised Evangelism
Revisado: 05-14-15
What disappointed you about Black?
He took what could've been a great story idea, a whole separate life while you sleep, and turned it into a thinly veiled attempt at telling the allegorical sinner/savior/salvation story. Didn't C.S. Lewis already successfully do that?
What was most disappointing about Ted Dekker’s story?
I kept waiting for some great new, creative science fiction, and all I got was regurgitation.
What does Rob Lamont bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Rob Lamont brought the story to life. His tambour is easy to listen to and his pacing is perfectly timed. I would listen to other works narrated by him.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The idea of living two simultaneous, yet drastically different lives is fascinating. The hope of getting deeper into that is what kept me reading. I hope one day Dekker develops this idea outside of the masked religious context. I would read that book/series.

Historia
Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

Exceptional series! One of those that keeps you up way too late because you can't put it down. The reader is also excellent - you'll love Faye! Full of twists and turns and action packed.
