Historia
Instantly recognizable, Auguste Renoir's masterpiece depicts a gathering of his real friends enjoying a summer Sunday on a café terrace along the Seine near Paris. A wealthy painter, an art collector, an Italian journalist, a war hero, a celebrated actress, and Renoir's future wife, among others, share this moment of la vie moderne, a time when social constraints were loosening and Paris was healing after the Franco-Prussian War.

Book doesn't do the painting justice
Revisado: 06-27-22
It felt like a made-up story about characters in a painting. There might be some truth sprinkled in but most of it is speculation or imagined. I didn't really connect with any of the characters.

Historia
The Texas Rangers came to life in 1823, when Texas was still part of Mexico. Nearly 200 years later, the Rangers are still going - one of the most famous of all law enforcement agencies. In Cult of Glory, Doug J. Swanson has written a sweeping account of the Rangers that chronicles their epic, daring escapades while showing how the white and propertied power structures of Texas used them as enforcers, protectors, and officially sanctioned killers.

Left me wanting more depth...
Revisado: 08-24-20
This was an interesting read that flowed very well. I pre-ordered the book after reading that the Texas Ranger statue in Dallas’ Love Field Airport was removed largely as a result of this book.
Through family accounts I had heard that the Texas Rangers were cruel to Mexican Americans in South Texas. They were called the “rinches” and not respected by migrant workers in South Texas.
As the book progressed I kept thinking “the next chapter will provide details and first hand accounts of the atrocities towards migrant workers.” There were some accounts but I was really hoping the author would go deeper.
It’s a good book that exposes the myth of the Texas Rangers. For that it served it’s purpose.

Historia
Hugely talented and famously eccentric, pianist Glenn Gould fought a running battle with a long list of less than perfect pianos. A Romance on Three Legs is the story of a love that changed Gould's life: his partnership with the Steinway CD 318, a piano whose peculiar action and temperament ushered Gould closer than ever to interpretive perfection. Katie Hafner weaves the compelling tale of Gould, his favorite piano, and the men who worked on it, revealing new details and nuances in the work and mind of one of the twentieth century's greatest artists.

Finally! An Audible book lives up to the hype!
Revisado: 01-26-19
I have listened to many Audible books and this one by far has been the best. Great narration, great story, well written! I finished in a week, mostly listening in my car. It could only have been better if some actual recordings of Glenn Gould playing would have been included.
