Historia
For years, Eddie Lee Sexton ruled his large family like Charles Manson. The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities. As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida.

If peanut butter could talk.....
Revisado: 12-27-24
it would sound like the narration in this book!... It sounded like he had a stuffy nose, also he pronounced words like the stapler guy in office space. Like his voice was being filtered through a jar of mud. Very distracting. I would have returned it but I bought it on sale so I had to endure it. I think I'll start listening to the samples of books before I purchase them to avoid this in the future.

Historia
In her best-selling memoir North of Normal, Cea wrote with grace about her unconventional childhood - her early years living in a tipi in Alberta with her pot-smoking, free-loving counterculture family. But her struggles do not end when she leaves her family at the age of 13 to become a model. Honest and daring, Nearly Normal reveals the many ways that Cea's unconventional childhood continues to reverberate through the years.

Really good, just one thing
Revisado: 08-23-24
I've enjoyed both of Cea's books. It might just be me, but there were a few words she used so often in this one that it really started to get on my nerves. "Tee pee camp" ...."Suzie Doll"....and "papa dick"......It got to the point that I told myself, if she says those words one more time i'm going to quit....but I wanted to hear the rest of the story so I hung in there. Other than that, great story told well.

What makes us fall in love with a song? What makes us want to write our own songs? Do songs help? Do songs help us live better lives? And do the lives we live help us write better songs? After two New York Times bestsellers that cemented and expanded his legacy as one of America’s best-loved performers and songwriters, Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) and How to Write One Song, Jeff Tweedy is back with another disarming, beautiful, and inspirational book about why we listen to music, why we love songs, and how music can connect us to each other and to ourselves.

Historia
In a narrative that moves from Washington's headquarters on the Hudson River, to the wooded hillside in North Carolina where Nathanael Greene fought Lord Cornwallis to a vicious draw, to Lafayette's brilliant series of maneuvers across Tidewater Virginia, author Nathaniel Philbrick details the epic and suspenseful year through to its triumphant conclusion. A riveting and wide-ranging story, full of dramatic, unexpected turns, In the Hurricane's Eye reveals that the fate of the American Revolution depended, in the end, on Washington and the sea.

Horrible narration
Revisado: 03-02-24
Maybe it's the recording engineers fault, but this narrator trails off to nearly a whisper at the end of about 60 percent of the sentences!!...so frustrating having to lean in and concentrate trying to hear what the last words of the sentences are. Going forward I'll pass on anything narrated by Scott Brick.

Revisado: 02-29-24
What a genuine, funny, honest, UN-pretentious, talented person Debbie Harry is. Entertaining from start to finish. So endearing listening to her tell her story, I didn't want it to end. I met her once a long time ago at a BBQ at Gary K's house. She was a sweet heart back then and she still is.

Historia
A leading light on the alternative and indie music scene for nearly 40 years, Jeff Tweedy is a master of the art in the artifice of songwriting. In this volume, Tweedy introduces listeners to the people, occasions, and frames of mind that have inspired but don’t necessarily populate the iconic songbooks of bands Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, and Tweedy.

I guess I'm Jeff's enemy
Revisado: 11-11-23
I've loved Jeff's music for years, Since uncle tupelo until now. I've also Loved all of his books. I've always listened to the audible versions. The way he talks and tells stories, the mannerisms with the way he talks and phrases things. I used to think "here's a guy I bet I'd be friends with if circumstances provided a way".....until I read this book.
I liked the way Johnny Carson dealt with political issues. He didn't talk much about it. Sure he joked about politicians on both sides, but he held his cards close to his chest when it came to his views. He said he handled it that way so he wouldn't alienate half the country who might have opposing views. And he certainly wouldn't go on a rant spewing much of the judgement and hatred that he accuses "the other side" of. It kind of ruined it for me, knowing that the music and books i'm enjoying, are being performed by a person who hates, or is disgusted with people like me. Artist?...Musician?...songwriter?....LOVE IT!!!...political activist?....I'll pass.

Historia
In 1999, as the end of an old century loomed, five musicians entered a recording studio in Paris without a deadline. Their band was widely recognized as the best and most forward-thinking in rock, a rarefied status granting them the time, money, and space to make a masterpiece. But Radiohead didn't want to make another rock record. Instead, they set out to create the future.

I Love Radiohead, but geesh
Revisado: 09-17-21
I thought the author went a little too far out in the deep end about this record. Injecting way too much politics and BS into a rock bands recording and relevance to social issues. I bought this because I love talking about music, and Radiohead is a great band, But all the political Rants made this a very irritating listen.

Great stories, excellent narration
Revisado: 05-01-21
It took forever to read as I found myself rewinding parts of the book to hear it again, or stopping to look up and listen to a song. You really get a sense of what humble, down to earth, generally good guys the members of the band were, VERY unlike Roberton's delusional account in his book "testimony", where robbie portrays himself as the one with the solution to every problem, the hero in every situation, The one who always manages to save the day.....so boring. If your going to read one book about the Band, it should be this one.
