This is an archaic "free" service that honestly just gets in my way. I would like it more if it provided in-deprh content, rather than headlines

Historia
Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.

Good info, but nothing new
Revisado: 05-20-17
The ideas here are not revolutionary. They are rather ordinary and obvious. Still, it's useful to hear them again and reflect upon them.
The reader was annoyingly stiff, though. He over - enunciates. It's the author. He should have let a professional read it. I enjoyed his Pennsylvania accent, though.

Historia
Destined to become a classic of adventure literature, The Last Season examines the extraordinary life of legendary backcountry ranger Randy Morgenson and his mysterious disappearance in California's unforgiving Sierra Nevada - mountains as perilous as they are beautiful. Eric Blehm's masterful work is a gripping detective story interwoven with the riveting biography of a complicated, original, and wholly fascinating man.

Just okay
Revisado: 05-13-17
I struggled to finish this book. I like biographies and I like mysteries, but I kept asking myself, "Is the fact that this park ranger went missing reason enough to write an exhaustive biography of him, starting with the lives of his parents? Why?" Morgenson was an interesting guy, if a bit sanctimonious and misanthropic, but so are a lot of other ordinary people who will never be the subject of a biography like this. Halfway through, and still not anywhere close to the real start of the search, I gave up and just did a Google search to learn what happened to him.

Historia
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."

I'm gonna have to buy the actual book
Revisado: 08-14-16
One would think it would be natural for the author of a memoir to narrate her own audio book, but in this case, no. Sounds like a recitation. It doesn't work. It's very strange. I will have to buy the actual book.

Historia
Simon Majumdar is probably not your typical idea of an immigrant. As he says, "I'm well rested, not particularly poor, and the only time I ever encounter 'huddled masses' is in line at Costco." But immigrate he did, and thanks to a Homeland Security agent who asked if he planned to make it official, the journey chronicled in Fed, White, and Blue was born. In it, Simon sets off on a trek across the United States to find out what it really means to become an American, using what he knows best: food.

Why does the narrator have an American accent?

I liked the book but that ruined it for me. The author is British, right?

Historia
In September 1941, Adolf Hitler's Wehrmacht surrounded Leningrad in what was to become one of the longest and most destructive sieges in Western history - almost three years of bombardment and starvation that culminated in the harsh winter of 1943 - 1944. Trapped between the Nazi invading force and the Soviet government itself was composer Dmitri Shostakovich, who would write a symphony that roused, rallied, eulogized, and commemorated his fellow citizens - the Leningrad Symphony.

Great book, amazing story
Revisado: 10-05-15
Wow. An amazing, almost unbelievable story, beautifully told, about Shostakovich and his world. Highly recommend this book. 5 stars. 6 if I could.
