Historia
After receiving a frantic letter from her newly-wed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada heads to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. She’s not sure what she will find—her cousin’s husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about the region.

Fell in love with fiction again
Revisado: 09-01-23
I usually prefer non-fiction, but several folks I know raved about this book.
I finally gave it a try during a long drive and I loved it. Someone else said the style combines those of Daphne du Maurier and Guillermo del Toro. I think that is an apt comparison.
The plot and characters are engrossing. The atmosphere indeed has that old-school gothic creepy & ominous factor. And the story, themes related to colonization and racism were fairly well explored.
I will definitely read this again and look for more works by this author. I want to start reading fiction again.

Historia
More than a traditional biography, In the Mountains of Madness will place Lovecraft and his work in a cultural context, as an artist more in tune with our time than his own. Much of the literary work on Lovecraft tries to place him in relation to Edgar Allan Poe, M. R. James, or Arthur Machen; these ideas have little meaning for most contemporary listeners. In his provocative new book, W. Scott Poole reclaims the true essence of Lovecraft in relation to the comics of Joe Lansdale, the novels of Stephen King, and more.

Excellent biography
Revisado: 07-26-17
To be honest, I'm not even a big fan of Lovecraft. I'm just mildly interested. However, this biography is so well researched and organized, I was mesmerized. The info provided and the way it is presented makes it one of the best biographies I know of. It also presents Lovecraft & his work in a way that would delight a serious fan and inspire others like me to read more Lovecraft.
