Historia
Two astronomers have detected a strange, pulsing signal from deep space. Within hours, the US government goes into lockdown, restricting airspace and scrubbing scientific data. Was the signal an intercepted communication revealing alarming plans for an enemy’s military strike? Or has humanity at long last found proof of extraterrestrial life?

Historia
Decades after the last footprints were left on the Moon, the US was preparing to return to the Lunar surface in a new class of rockets, when the mission suddenly became much more urgent. It would have to be a rescue mission. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world China had sent its own Lunar expedition. A manned expedition. Until a distress call was received, no human outside of China even knew that the mission was manned - or that their ship had crash-landed and couldn't take off again.

So so story, poor narration
Revisado: 12-15-24
Story was disappointing. I was hoping for a space adventure and instead it was a rehash of Apollo just with a different name.

Historia
“In the beginning, God was said to have created everything in fairly short order. Some say seven days. Others say three. The truth is that god created nothing. God flipped a switch. The machines have been building ever since.” In the crowded techno-religious city of Aberthene, almost everyone is augmented by biomedical modification. Part machine, and part human. The church rules the state and controls everything from production to housing. Addeleigh Simmons works in a religious building cleaning out suicide booths during the day while attending classes and studying at night.

Historia
In post-Civil War New York City, sixteen-year-old Aislynn Denehy cannot find a job, she has no place to live and no family to help her. Some might think this is a problem; Aislynn believes it is an opportunity. No formulaic romance, this well-researched love story depicts life as it truly was for the thousands of women who went west reaching for a new life. Aislynn's journey begins in a New York City tenement and leads her across the frontier to a Utah mining camp where she must cope with the three very different men in her life: smart, solicitous Tim; good-natured, good-guy Johnny; and the intense but intriguing Liam Moran. Life in the roughshod camp brings small joys and devastating losses. Susan Denning's engaging debut novel races through authentic experiences involving historical events until it erupts in an unexpected ending.

Historia
The Cuban Missiles Crisis didn't end peacefully and the '"swinging sixties" didn't happen. On Saturday, October 27, 1962, American and Soviet geopolitical brinkmanship resulted in the most terrible war in human history. The forever changed world that remained when the thermonuclear fires had burned themselves out is the world of Timeline 10/27/62.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-10-17
The premise was good but the execution failed. For a profound event like nuclear war, there needs to be something more than a few flickers on the horizon and a very detailed description of how high the smoke would rise. There was no buildup of suspense, nothing to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Too many unnecessary descriptions of the history of the ships involved interspersed with very dry readings of future encyclopedia entries turned what should have been an exciting narrative into a cure for insomnia.
The narrator was not the best though I think with practice he might be. He did seem to do better as the story progressed.
Character development was poor. There was background information on the characters but not enough depth on how they felt. It was almost as if they heard about the war and went "meh".
I won't be reading subsequent books. There just wasn't any excitement to the story.

Historia
On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman and child in a remote mining town will disappear, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins, and not a single bone will be found - not even the gold that was rumored to have been the pride of this town. One hundred and thirteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a leading history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them into the abandoned mining town so they can learn what happened.

Unique Mystery
Revisado: 07-16-13
I found this listen rather intriguing. The end was a nice twist from the usual, it was not expected at all until near the end when you wondered which of the possibilities existed. I did think there were some flaws where characters who were miners would have known of certain possibilities but I can't get into it any further without giving it away.
This is not the run-of-the-mill mystery and I think you'll enjoy it.

Decent Story, Strange Ending
Revisado: 02-27-13
The main story was okay, nothing really unexpected but not boring. Also, I thought the back stories could have been better. The ending was a bit strange. It started to wind down as expected but then suddenly picked up as though this was book one of a series with no prior indication that this would be the case. I don't know if I'll read another one by this author. I'm still deciding.

Satisfying Ending but Boring Interlude
Revisado: 02-27-13
Overall I've liked this author. I really enjoyed Chasing Fireflies so I was a bit disappointed in this one. Some of the detailed descriptions of guns and their use didn't add anything to the story and made me want to fast-forward. If I had been reading this in print, I would have skipped over those pages. Also, some of the musings of the protagonist were overly long and repetitive. I think with a little better editing, this could have been a five star book.
The narrators were very good. I can't fault them at all. It was very easy to tell who was talking and who wasn't. They both were excellent.
