Historia
Slaying undead is an endless task, but one Hunter Haeight has aspired to all her life. She joins Noelictus' Hunter's Guild and works her way up the ranks, slaying zombies, skeletons, and ghouls with dedication and zeal. However, there is a rot within the Kingdom of Shade, and Haeight's aspirations turn into doubts as she finds a web of conspiracies in the capital, Menorome. The Hunters there are off—something is afoot. It is a bewildering, overwhelming place for new Hunters, as well as the fourth Princess of Calanfer, Seraphel du Marquin, who has arrived for her marriage, unhappy and alone.

"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

it grew on me
Revisado: 08-04-24
Story and character development starts out slow, like very slow. The latter half continually moves faster and gets better however, so I'd rate it worht the wait. I'll be getting the next book.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Very hard to connect with
Revisado: 06-18-21
I love fantasy of all types and having run out of other major series lately I thought I'd try this one finally.
It was not quite painful, but it was not gripping entertaining, or engaging. The author failed to make me care about a single character or the plot. Rarely have I enjoyed a fantasy so little.

Historia
A staggering defeat on the border of Adro and Kez leaves Tamas and his powder mages in grave danger and cut off from all aid. Meanwhile, deadly political games threaten his allies at home. When invasion looms...Tamas's invasion of Kez ends in disaster when a Kez counter-offensive leaves him cut off behind enemy lines with only a fraction of his army, no supplies, and no hope of reinforcements. Drastically outnumbered and pursued by the enemy's best, he must lead his men on a reckless march through northern Kez to safety, and back over the mountains so that he can defend his country.

What a ride! 2nd book even tops the 1st.
Revisado: 04-29-21
Lots of action and plot twists without seeming forced. Constant plot build ups, with few let downs. A real minute burner. The characters are likeable and mostly realistic. I fully recommend to any high fantasy fan. Take a break from all the medieval settings and come enjoy a ride through a Napoleonic time setting with a Sanderson worthy magic system mixed in!

Historia
Stretched to his limit, Tamas is relying heavily on his few remaining powder mages, including the embittered Taniel, a brilliant marksman who also happens to be his estranged son, and Adamat, a retired police inspector whose loyalty is being tested by blackmail. But when gods are involved....Now, as attacks batter them from within and without, the credulous are whispering about omens of death and destruction. Just old peasant legends about the gods waking to walk the earth. No modern educated man believes that sort of thing. But they should....

Good mixture of action and character building. Compelling plot. Solid magic system. I put this off a while based on some lukewarm reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised!

Best of the series so far
Revisado: 04-19-21
This one had a bit more gripping action than the prior books. Maybe I finally had built some attachment to the characters, but I found myself "turning pages" toward the end, whereas the prior books have been a bit slower and the characters a bit more frustrating.

Worst of the 4 Cantos.
Revisado: 03-28-21
I loved the first 2 Hyperion books, liked the 3rd one, and seriously worked to make it through this one. It was cool to read more about the incredible Hyperion universe, but the characters were flat predictable, and dislikeable. The adventure was interesting enough in the 3rd book to make up for it, but the greater focus on the flat characters and the "love" story in this final book was painful to read.

Skip to the last 4 chapters
Revisado: 07-08-19
Nearly the entire book is extremely tedious character development. If you skip to the last four chapters of the book, you will avoid the entire verbose banal development of the two characters. One is foolish, evil, and selfish, the other is foolish and incredibly slow on the pick up. That's about all you need to know before skipping to the end.
