I was a bit leery when I started listening but it only took a few minutes before I was hooked.

Great narrator, great characters and a fantastic story.

Highly recommend!

I thought it would be too "low key" and boring at first but it didn't take long for me to flow into the story. Absolutely lovely story and the narration was excellent. Highly recommend.

I loved this book when I first read it years ago and I really wanted to love this production as well. I guess my tastes have changed because it was hard to finish this audiobook.

The female characters were spineless and the men were jerks. Part of it was the narrator, who has a wonderful voice but his female voices are irritating and very whiny. But I have to put most of the "fault" onto outdated stereotypes of helpless women and rakish men.

The book was well written and beautifully performed. I normal don't care for mysteries because they tend to be trite or obvious. But she kept me guessing and kept my interest right to the end. Well done!

It was quite enjoyable and inspiring and offers wisdom for all ages, young and old(er) alike.

While his age showed somewhat in his performance, the performance was excellent.

My only complaint is that it was somewhat repetitive. Some of that was for emphasis but some of it felt like a filler.

But overall, that was 5 hours of my life well spent.

Derik's Bane is so-so. Skip the short story!

What disappointed you about Derik's Bane?

Why in heaven's name would you sneak in the that short story "Monster Love"? I was "OK" with this novel ... not good but it was OK. Then the ugly short-story started. RAPE is not romance.

What was most disappointing about MaryJanice Davidson’s story?

RAPE IS NOT ROMANCE.

What does Nancy Wu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is a very good narrator.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

If you jump past the piece of violent crud at the end, Derek's Bane was ok.

Any additional comments?

MaryJanice Davidson: Rape is Rape. It is not romance and it is not fun or funny. I always thought the Luke and Laura "romance" was sick and I would have thought that we had progressed past this level of sick thinking.

Please do not throw this garbage into any more of your books or you will lose readership.

Would you try another book from Laurell K. Hamilton and/or Kimberly Alexis?

Laurell K. Hamilton? Not without reading the reviews first.

Kimberly Alexis' performance was the only thing that made this worthwhile.

What could Laurell K. Hamilton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I don't know. Maybe have a story, plot, something other than one sex scene, followed by discussion about the last sex scene, planning then next sex scene. Then the next sex scene ...

What character would you cut from Jason?

Anita. That character deserves more than being the "star" of the metaphysical version of Debbie Does Dallas

Any additional comments?

I'll read the reviews before buying next time.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

THE NARRATOR!

Would you be willing to try another one of Charles Keating’s performances?

Great accent. Nice voice. Big "s" issue. Every "s" was disturbing.

This was nothing more than a reading of the book. No acting. No attempts to develop character voices.

Sorry. Boring.

Would you listen to By Heresies Distressed again? Why?

Not until it's re-recorded (if ever!) by Oliver Wyman.

What three words best describe Jason Culp’s voice?

He's a good reader but not as good as Oliver Wyman. Can't stand the accent he chose for Caleb, a poor Scottish Burr that make the Emperor sound unintelligent.
