Historia
While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.

More holes than Swiss cheese
Revisado: 07-12-24
This is the literary equivalent of watching a Hollywood B movie where the characters make the most illogical decisions possible despite being labeled as “prepper” etc. The lack of reason, logic, or basic ability to assess cause and effect makes it a painful read/listen. I gave it a chance hoping it would get better, but it only got worse. Not worth the credit:$. It was such a head scratcher when all of the men were absurdly uncomfortable even handling a backpack that had tampons in it and the tactical decisions were nothing but blunders… then I looked up the author and it made sense.

Great storyline, choppy storytelling
Revisado: 01-02-24
Great storyline but very disjointed in its structure, including names that sound very similar and French so difficult to follow as your mind plays catch up. Not something I expect from Joshua Hood, certainly not expected after the seamless first installment which had many flashbacks and flash forwards then to present which would be a bigger challenge. Makes me think possibly a different editor?

Historia
In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield. With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

Great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 11-23-23
Brad, please don’t ever let this narrator ruin another book of yours. He reads like an AI bot on YouTube, like he’s doing a bad Alexa impersonation. Hire Ray Porter (see Sons of Valor by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson) as he would do your stories justice.

Couple technical errors
Revisado: 12-28-22
Some firearms and machinery errors, such as when Evan shoots his 1911 dry and does a one handed magazine change then uses the sights to cycle the slide to load a round from the fresh magazine: the slide locks back/open on empty so he would simply insert the magazine and use his thumb to press the slide lock lever to drop the slide forward to chamber a round, no skilled shooter would perform the extra step which would be much slower.

Historia
Evan Smoak lives by his own code. Once he was known as Orphan X. Trained as an off-the-books government assassin and spoken about only in whispers, Evan Smoak was one of the most talented - and most feared - men in the Program. But he broke free and reinvented himself as The Nowhere Man, a figure shrouded in mystery, known for helping the truly desperate. If anyone is truly desperate, it’s Max Merriweather.

Historia
The Nowhere Man is a figure shrouded in secrecy - a near legendary figure who helps those lucky few who are given the means to reach out to him. Before he was the Nowhere Man, Evan Smoak was a highly trained government operative known to a few as Orphan X. This is the story of Smoak's first outing as the Nowhere Man, where after completing a mission in Northern California, he happens to spot a young woman at a coffee shop....

Ben, you have to do some research
Revisado: 10-03-22
As the Dewey series has gone forward, Ben has gotten a bit sloppier with the details with each. I’m not sure if he was in a hurry or just got a bit lazy given his success. What’s worse is that the oversights, Mia-statements and plain old errors are repeated over and over again. Examples: AR15s don’t fire on burst or fully automatic, they only have safe and semi-auto modes; the military M4 which uses the same receiver/chassis but different fire control mechanisms have safe, fire, burst (3rds) modes with only very few having full auto capability. Also, there is no “manual” setting on the AR, the AK, the MP7 or Uzi, the correct term is semi-auto meaning one trigger pull, one bullet, then you have to let the trigger come forward to reset and again pull the trigger, any 12 year old who plays call of duty knows this so you’d think an author basing his entire story around gun play would get this right. Colt 1911A1 is a single action only hammer fired pistol, so you would not carry it with a round in the chamber, cocked, with the safety off- that’s not trained because it’s unsafe; any competent shooter would carry it “cocked and locked”, or what’s called “condition 1” in the military so round in the chamber, cocked, safety on because as you draw the firearm your thumb lands on top of it presses the safety down to disengage, and then “rides” the safety lever (stays on top of) as you fire. This is simply how it is done, standard operating procedure, and how the gun is designed ergonomically to be fired. Oh, and because it’s a single action pistol, it cannot “click” as the hammer falls when the gun runs out of ammo because the slide locks back/open, so when you put a new magazine in and drop the slide forward, the hammer os cocked ready to fire, and it certainly cannot click twice because you’d have to manually cock the hammer again. So many things like that in this book. Oh yeah, guns don’t have “ceramic” triggers, they’re aluminum or steel, and I couldn’t even find a one off custom trigger made from ceramic for any gun, so stop trying to make the gun sound cool by saying ceramic trigger which is not a thing; although I guess this is a work of fiction after all. AR15s don’t fire “high caliber” bullets, in fact they are 22caliber (quite small) and they also aren’t high powered, the 5.56x45/.223 Remington is an intermediate cartridge; a high caliber round would be large in diameter like a 50 caliber, whereas a high powered rifle round would be a 7.62x51/.308 Winchester, 7.62x54R, 338 lapua, 300win mag, .50 BMG, 6.5mm creedmore, etc. Please tighten it up, watch a couple of credible firearms/cartridges videos on YouTube, consult some ex military guys, etc before trying to write with authority.

Short story- don’t waste a credit
Revisado: 09-22-22
A bit of a ripoff as this turned out to be a short story, one lacking character development and even having a departure of character in the Dewey, Rob, and Katie that we’ve grown to know and love.
