Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Unfortunately what stood out the most was the narrators overuse of exuberance while reading the book.

Good story ruined by Epilog
Revisado: 12-18-24
I enjoyed listing to the behind the scene’s challenges SpaceX went through, the epilog by Berger was strange and politically tainted. Eric seems to think that because he has written books about SpaceX his views about non space business adventures (X) should be considered with the same sway. Here is my epilog to Eric, stick to space stories.

Historia
Mountain man and fur trader Jedediah Smith casts a heroic shadow. He was the first Anglo-American to travel overland to California via the Southwest, and he roamed through more of the West than anyone else of his era. His adventures quickly became the stuff of legend. Using new information and sifting fact from folklore, Barton H. Barbour now offers a fresh look at this dynamic figure.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Scientific genius political novis
Revisado: 06-07-24
Great story of a life of a human genius. All humans have biases and Einstein was no exception. Being a Jewish German it made sense that his thoughts around fascism were his number one social/political concern. He, like a lot of European scientists, felt the same way. Fascism was wrong but communism was ok. One world order makes sense on the surface however he never really embraced democracy. He enjoyed Americas freedom but was to accepting of communism.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

I loved the details given about young JRO however it was clear that the writer was politically biased. Always making a logical excuse for communist ties. Overall, worth the listen on audible.

Historia
How do you argue with perfection? The voters in the coaches and media polls can deliberate who's No. 1, the computers can spit out endless data to add to the arguments and everyone involved can ponder the merits of a playoff system, but some things aren't up for debate, especially the final perfection of Auburn's 2004 season. With a 13-0 record, an SEC championship and a Sugar Bowl victory, the Tigers know, "We're national champions in our hearts, even if no one else thinks so," Jason Campbell said.

Great story about young men and coaches coming together as a team to prove no one could beat them. Chette Williams (team chaplain) impact on this team was inspiring.

Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. Historia
When Ball Four was published in 1970, it created a firestorm. Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries. Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four.

Revisado: 08-29-21
Disappointing book. This guy is not a writer but maybe in the 70’s this was a big deal. listening to a guy laugh at his own stories got old quick. Hint: owners used to screw players before players Union and now look how the players and owners are screwing the fans. Wish I hadn’t waisted a credit on this book.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.
